UNCUT | Mulholland Drive (2001) Movie Reaction (*WITH review)

Hi all! This film was so different to what I had expected, as it ran so many different ways, but I loved it so much. If you don't know, I love psychological thrillers and this was my kind of thing.

Thank you for requesting it! It changed it's direction so many times, I sometimes wasn't sure what to think. I had some theories and spoke about them throughout.

This one I have edited together the trivia too, as I was needing to get my thoughts out to you as soon as I could.

I hope you enjoy! Take care and have a lovely rest of the week

I have SO SO MUCH I could say about this film that I don't even know where to start. For now, I'll tell you that this is my #1 favorite use of a song in a movie ever, 'Llorando' by Rebekah del Rio who also played the performer in the film. My gods the sheer range and expressiveness of her voice, from smoky lament to soaring devastation--! The song is a Spanish cover of 'Crying' (Roy Orbison, 1961). I know a little Spanish and could understand it, even when I watched for the first time; the words are fairly simple. My favorite part is this: Dime tú qué puedo hacer (Tell me, you, what can I do) No me quieres ya, y siempre estaré (You don't love me anymore, and I will always be) Llorando por tu amor Llorando por tu amor (Crying for your love, crying for your love) As to how it connects to the meaning of the film, maybe I ought to write up my personal Mulholland Drive Theory! 🙂

In the last quarter century and more, if there's an actress with a better performance than Naomi Watts in Mulholland Drive, I can't think who it would be. She takes my breath away every time.

Tess

🤣 Oh yes... it's definitely Lynch! Just wait until it gets further in for even more thoughts 😜

Marty

Less than 2 minutes in before Marty says this film is weird... Welcome to David Lynch. 😂

Tess

Thank you! I had no idea there was a TV version of this originally?! Fascinating. I'll have to check it out! Much appreciated for the link too. I'll try to download when I can. Oh yeah, definitely some of the creepiest things in a long time. I knew something was off about the elderly couple! Thought they were demons and she had died or something 🙈 Yeah Lynch is terrific. I need to watch Twin Peaks at some point in the future

Marty

Ahh Tess! Thank you so much for requesting this one. I was glad to have finally got around to it, it's brilliant! Those twists were mindblowing. I'm really hoping you enjoy the reaction to this one. It's become a HUGE favourite of mine now too! Take care

Marty

One of my top 10 favorite films of all time. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Marty

Tess

Glad you enjoyed it Marty. Lynch is a genius at making movies that get under your skin like you're watching a dream. The man behind the diner and the elderly couple at the end have to be some of the scariest scenes I've seen. The build up is so intense. Not sure if you knew but he had made a TV pilot version of the movie which is about 40mins which you can see here. I don't think it was officially released https://archive.org/details/mulholland-drive-tv-pilot
