A little side project. What do you think?
Added 2023-11-09 18:42:00 +0000 UTCSo, something I've been contemplating for a little while now to help make the channel more accessible to others and I would like to get some opinions on it please. This is something I'd potentially slowly work on over the next few months.
I might post about this at some point on the channel's community tab too, to get some extra feedback but I trust you guys and wanted to hear your thoughts first.
Over time, I would love to subtitle every video* properly into both English and specific other languages from countries that most watch my videos. Currently, other than the US and Canada, there's a lot of viewers in Germany. This means that my first set of captioning could be Germany.
This project is not YouTube captioning though. There's a lot of issues with those not translating properly and while it's fairly accurate, it can get it very wrong too at times.
Instead, this is something I would create myself, by creating all new accurate subtitles. These new subtitles can then be auto translated into specific languages using some software. These auto translations may be slightly in-accurate, but would be far more accurate than the YouTube captions.
I could do these for one or two languages, but it would be very time consuming and probably un-needed to do this for all languages.
I'll probably discuss this on the next live stream too. What are your thoughts? Is it worth it?
Do you have any specific languages you'd like to see? Maybe this is something that I'll have to work on over time and when the channel grows, but at least if I were to start now, it's not as many videos to work on as it would be in the future.

Thank you Scott, yeah that makes a lot of sense. I'd been wondering if it was a good idea or if it might be time that would be better spent making more videos instead for now. Maybe I'll do this project in the future when (and if) there is a more widespread audience that may want them. For now those YT versions will hopefully be okay. I really appreciate the feedback, especially as I'll sometimes have an idea and want to run with it as soon as possible to get ahead. Yeah I may do one or two in the future. It's not so much to bring in more people, but more just to help out whomever does stumble onto the videos or existing audience who might want a better translation for better viewing. 2023-11-12 13:01:25 +0000 UTCHi Marty--My only thoughts would be that it sounds very time consuming and I have a sense that there might not be much payoff in terms of increased viewership. I doubt that there are very many people who don't already speak at least some English who would make up a target audience for your videos, but what do I know? lol. I guess it just seems as though it might not be worth the effort, especially if it takes you away from producing more videos for your channel. But, of course, it's your time and your effort, so if it seems worth it to you, go for it. You could, I suppose, just try doing subtitle translations on two or three videos, put them up and see what the response is like.
