Your Thoughts On Reacting To "War Of The Worlds" (1938) Radio Drama?
Added 2023-09-12 11:05:11 +0000 UTCHello guys, I would love your thoughts on this please. NOTE: This is unlike anything else people have done and would seemingly be the first "Reaction" to the radio drama (maybe any?) ... hence why I'm so dubious.
So, over the past year since a number of videos (mainly Citizen Kane), I have been asked if I would 'react' to "War Of The Worlds" (1938) Radio Drama by Orson Welles, but I'm not sure if that would work on camera, would it?
Obviously the style would have to be completely different as there are no visuals, but maybe I do it in a dark room in my winged armchair, in black and white with just a 'torch' light or similar. I'd shoot it probably multi camera and also include footage of me getting ready to listen "on October 30th 1938" and maybe have extra footage of potential imagery to go along with some of the audio, whilst including my reaction still. It would work well in some ways visually as I have a very old cottage and some vintage things lying around, including a vintage radio / record player etc, which I can try to add in for effect.
It's a massive undertaking, but would be quite fun to create. My only concern is that it may be vastly different. I would still want the reaction to be first time hearing it though and I'm intrigued to see if it would work well on camera. I'd try to make it as pleasing to look at, rather than a static shot of me listening, hence the multi-cam.
I would need to be very careful with how much of it I use as well and would want to give commentary on it still, as I always do, but would just need extra assets there to not make it too boring visually (not that the radio drama would be boring though).
I'd love your thoughts and will only be posting this poll post on Patreon for now.
What do you think? Please feel free to comment below too, if you would like.
Thank you

Yeah, I really did think quite a lot about it. Thank you! I think it will be very different, but hopefully in a good way and not to distract from the radio drama itself, but more to support the story as much as possible. I know the idea behind the story and funnily enough with having watched Ghostwatch recently, it took inspiration from War Of The Worlds! Funny how things go like that. Originally I planned Ghostwatch to go out on 31st October (like when it aired), however, WoTW aired on 30th October... so do I put two out back to back? Maybe, as it's Halloween! - Oh that's brilliant that you heard it at a young age. Yeah, it would have for me too! I had similar loves of old radio shows or old shows back then. It's great to hear though, as the old radio shows never die and we'll always love them!
