Scientists discover Metallic Water!!

When alkali metals dissolve in liquid ammonia, they do something exceptionally weird. They dissolve as electrons and metal ions. The electrons are actually blue in color at low concentration, and at higher concentrations turn an immaculate metallic golden. In principal you can do the same thing with water, except it usually explodes before you see anything. Because the water molecular is more polar than water, the solvated electron cavities are about half the size, and this makes them MUCH more reactive. Solvated electrons in water last for microseconds! However if you deposit a VERY thin layer of water on a virginally clean metal surface, the first few layers will support solvated electrons for an extended period of time. This is partly due to the drop of metal representing a large supply of surplus electrons.  Also published this week in Nature! (a very high profile journal :-) )

Many thanks for all your support! This couldnt have been done without you!!
