Hes then repeated this with the supersonic vertical take off and landing electric jet, and ‘full self driving’ cars…. Oh and solar roofs and his 150mph loop system!
As a result when he claims hes going to make $50 bn a year from providing satellite internet to sparsely populated parts of the planet, Im maybe a little more than skeptical! The simplest numbers are according to Musk himself, the satellites have a bandwidth of some 20Gbs each. Given the satellite serve only a relatively small area where everyone in that area is likely to be awake and using the internet at the same time, this means you are only likely to be able to serve about 1000 ppl per satellite before you start running out of bandwidth. Crunch the numbers, factoring in the fact that these satellites generally only service customers on land (30% of the Earth surface), and you have something that looks more ‘break even at best’ rather than $50 bn profit a year!

I supported your channel as a top tier patron for 18 months and 6 at a lower level hoping to talk on a quarterly meetup, and you have yet to deliver any of the rewards promised. Every creator I’ve supported has held up their end of the bargain except yours. You have plenty of time to post on Twitter and rag on musk, but you’re ignoring your supporters. I could understand waiting up to a few weeks for you to reply to a Patreon message, but it’s been 10 months since your last reply. You talk a big game about honesty and integrity, but I’m calling your bluff. Is that statement hedged for scientific purposes? Do you hold yourself to a different standard when it comes to business/ financial matters? I don’t want to be a dick and drag your reputation through the mud, but you’ve put me in a difficult position. A response in a reasonable timeframe would be greatly appreciated.

2021-07-20 21:01:34 +0000 UTCI wish I could get 20 Mb/s and we have wired Internet the problem with the provider model they are using is the price per satellite. Musk just has to get launch costs down to where he will make money despite getting all those satellites up there to serve enough people at a competitive speed to make money. So he just has to follow up on another heap of his promises.
