Ive not seen this sort of level of people throwing money at hype since Theranos. People were sinking billions into that before people started stating the obvious…. ‘but it doesn’t work’
The hyperloop has the warnings ALL over it. Why build a hyperloop test track in one of the worst places to build one in the country? Why didn’t they have the foresight to put their original test track on a site that could be extended?
Even in the best case scenario their track will not be long enough. My reckoning is the shortest track you need to merely to accelerate to the fabled 600mph and slow down again sensibly is about 20km. The test track they are building is about half that length. Further their proposed test track isn’t straight enough to deliver the fabled top speed.
To watch the politicals gush over this as some gamechanger was frankly pretty sad. It had the simpsons ‘monorail’ vibe all over it!

I think you UNDERESTIMATED how straight the track needs to be. You say in the video that the 600 mph hyperloop needs 10 times the radius of the 60 mph highway curves. But, centripetal force is a function of the SQUARE of the velocity. So, wouldn't the minimum radius need to be 100 times the minimum used on highways?

2020-11-26 15:52:20 +0000 UTCThe politicians don't care if it works, it doesn't have to work, it just has to employ a couple thousand West Virginians. I think of this whole thing as performance art, and as long as the government isn't paying for all of it, it doesn't do much harm. When they find that they can't keep a seal on their tube, can't get to their fabled top speeds, can't load enough people to make it viable, can't power it affordably, etc. then we can all admire that at least they paid some decent salaries to create their art project.
