Springfoot's Spirit

Greetings adventurers!

Now this one is special. I spent years getting to know a Springfoot by the name of Bota who had come to our shop on a curious whim one day. I had never seen a Springfoot before that day, nor had I ever even heard of them. It seems that they’re quite reclusive, preferring to stay hidden away from the prying eyes of the world. After years of our friendship and learning more about their culture and ways, eventually a day came where I was invited to visit Bota’s village. I was flabbergasted as I know how serious that is for the Springfoot. I took them up on their offer and visited where I was granted a gift in this very special coat… I treasure it dearly. I miss Bota.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
I was so excited for this month’s creature and item combination from the moment we dreamt up the concept of it. There’s just something exciting about doing something a little weird and this month with the creature we had, we knew we had to do something related to a tail considering that’s what they’re all about. We think of the Springfoot as a friendly creature so we wanted to make sure to create an item that felt more like a reward than something pulled from them. Something kind of given to a friend.

Originally I had thought about asking Fernando to do a medallion that granted you the tail, but Fernando brought up a ge and I knew that’s where we had to go, well once I learned what a ge was. The design for this was pretty straight forward. I knew I wanted to translate a lot of the abilities of the springfoot into the item so the jumping, bonus action attack with the tail, and sweep were all just basically pulled straight from the creature.

I actually recommend new magic item creators to look at creature abilities for inspiration. A lot of the time you can get some great ideas from the ones that are more than just a bite or claw. Try translating an ability to an item. It really gets you in the mind of creative design.

Even if you choose not to add the Springfoot to your games, I still think this coat could work quite well on its own. Much could be left to imagination for where and how this coat came to be. I try to make sure that our items can stand on their own legs, but go well with the creature we create for that very reason.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
