My new animation "WALL GNOMES" just dropped and I thought I'd share this little behind-the-scenes snippet!!
Wall Gnomes began as one of several 1-minute one-off improv skits I recorded, intended to become YouTube Shorts like Wizard Beer. (You'll see more eventually... 😅)
Usually I just take one pass, layering the voices bit by bit until I reach a minute and if it's funny I keep it, if it's not I delete it LOL--but with Wall Gnomes I ended up doing SEVERAL attempts...
This is one of the earlier ones, the basic idea is still there but in this version Grady (the Steve Buscemi-looking guy) is the HOMEOWNER instead of an apprentice electrician.
I didn't think it was funny enough to animate, but I really liked the voices and the basic idea so I did ONE MORE attempt... That one sort of naturalistically ended at a cliffhanger--"Can we have some?" "Yeah, alright."
So I promoted the skit from a Short to a "normal video" and added the second half with the shrinking powder and such!
I think the final version kind of accesses more of the potential of the skit, what I felt was missing from the earlier version. We want to SEE in the walls, we want to see the PIES... Or at least I do. 🥧🤔
Anyways, I hope this is somewhat interesting! Sorry if any lines are hard to understand, the Dave voice (mustache guy) is pretty goofy and unintelligible LOL.
Have a great holiday season!! I'm headed to California soon to play in the BLIB show, tickets are still available! If you're in the area come and see us it's gonna be a RIOT. I think it's gonna be recorded so everyone will get a chance to see/hear it eventually.
PEACE!!
