WIZARD BEER: Making-Of

HELLO, EVERYONE! I just finished editing this little Wizard Beer making-of.

The first 20 minutes are all about the visuals and the last 10 are about the sound.

I hope you enjoy and thank you for watching!!

Does anyone know how to get the “shimmer bone” effect that he mentions briefly in the video? I’ve tried googling it and got nothing so I think it’s just a term Ian uses …

Owen S

I had no idea how much work went into these, you're awesome

Jyotika

I would actually pay money for classes from you, this is mind blowing, I can’t wait to see more of what you create and your process holy moly-

Patricia Mckown

Wonderful and Whimsical

Intestine Jubilee

The 3D rig being made to look 2D is so incredible, but I'm also amazed that you recorded a whole symphony by yourself for the backing track??? That was so inspiring to watch

JackyBoy

This video was a pleasure to watch the whole way through! Maybe if you have time in the future, I would really love to see your process for sculpting the characters in blender, or maybe even a simple tutorial like the Slimer-Hotdog video 😆

Hank Humble

Your curiosity into the "faux 2D" Blender realm is astonishing. This is inspiring.

Coperkun

I had no idea this was 3D animated! The use of the lattice was SUCH a good idea and added such a nice touch! Also I never knew it was possible to make a one person orchestra, and I always love hearing about the foley, so that was super interesting to see too. Love seeing the process behind these projects because they're super inspiring :3

Mokeonn

Would like to know as well

SourInk

Does he show how he makes his models in any of these streams? They are so good, especially for Captain Yajima

SourInk

Thank you stranger, you have helped me a greatly :)

Hugo Clarin

Seeing your techniques for this one is so amazing. It really gets me that you even went to the trouble of faking his sashes not being colored right for a single frame.

Rev Storm

I think it’s just drivers that are controlling different points of the lattice so you’re not constantly clicking around the model.

Eric Schuran

How did you manage to make that control panel for your latice?

Hugo Clarin

So the flat colour is just an emission material? I always thought that was primarily used for giving light, like a glowing effect.

Eric Schuran

Nvm, i found a french fellow who i could copy :b

Hugo Clarin

I had no idea this one wasn't hand dawn.

Andrew Lawson

Your video was quite informative, thank you! But how did you create those automatic finger curls? i can't find any tutorial on it.

Hugo Clarin

Hey Ian I love the video! I'd really like to get into modeling and rigging for my own projects, are there any learning resources that you would suggest? I already know simple modeling, but I'm not quite sure how to get into 3D character stuff.

daveyt

i'm just so so blown away to realize this rig is 3D!! i was fully convinced you were replicating that rankin bass 2d style with just grease pencil, but this is a mind blowing result of some 3d for 2d mastery!!!

Bryson McBee

I would love a detailed breakdown of the masking technique. One reason i haven't gotten into grease pencil is because it is always on top of geometry. So if a character with a grease pencil face walks behind a wall the face shows through.

Kaleb

Have you looked into the lattice magic plugin ? I think it's an easier way to warp the model on each frame.

Ethereal Snake

Thanks for being so technical in this breakdown! It's really inspiring to see what people manage to do in 3D.

Clemming

Your animation techniques for this one are even more interesting than I expected! Do you see yourself using them for Big Top season 3? It would definitely require remaking the characters from scratch, but it's looking like there are about to be a lot of new faces on the show anyway.

Jake Walker

The lattice reminds me of the old SM64 start screen where you could stretch Mario's face around. Super cool stuff!

Adam Ladner Scott

this was so cool and interesting to see! thanks for the video!

Calbert Canoe

This was fantastic and so inspiring, thank you so much for sharing your process!!

emzurl

I LOVE YOU

Leo Guneyer

YESS!! This was incredible. I watched it the first time and my mind was blown finding out it was mainly 3D. THANK YOU

Quinold

LETS GOOOO
