Cool! Thanks for the answer! I'd love to try and make my own stop motion videos. These are so inspiring!

The lighting is a lot of trial and error, honestly. To make things seem smaller you use a low F-Stop in the camera. They do this in live-action as well, it increases the depth-of-field which better resembles the DoF when filming miniatures I believe. I'm no expert but that's what I've heard.

I'm very late to the party, but I would love to know more about how you light your scenes. The harsh lighting really sells the feeling of being made in the 70s. Also is there anything special you do with your camera to simulate the feeling of being small models?

SO much cool info! That pupil boolean! And I love how you do swappable mouths. I just found a similar method that uses geometry nodes if you were at all interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfOLveHLMaM

https://github.com/Koterminion/Incremental-Bone-Rotation You asked for it, you got served.

Highly illuminating!

This is amazing. As someone who uses Blender on a daily basis for something totally different (3D printing), I love getting to see all the other aspects.. grease pencils, rigging, animation. Thanks for sharing :D

Thanks for the behind the scenes! So fun to see how it was all made, looks so legit!

Not sure if you're familiar with them but I highly recommend the add-ons Onion Skin Tools and FreeIK, both on Blender Market. Onion Skin Tools lets you do onion skinning in 3D, and FreeIK lets you use forward and inverse kinematics on all bones simultaneously (like an actual puppet), as well as pin bones in place on the fly!

So jazzed to see all this. Thanks for making these making-ofs, Ian!

Justin T Lee

I dunno about Ian but I certainly would! Been a thing I've been trying to figure out for rigs but haven't been able to crack

Ben "Sonjira" Young

Thanks for the video Ian ;D Have been waiting ages for this one whahaha. I am currently making an addon for incremental bone rotation. When it's done, do you have interest in it?

Hannah Umit

Can you recommend any courses or resources for advanced Blender rigging?
