Mark of the Beast (practice)

Hands are probably the thing I struggle with the most, which I guess isnt uncommon.. so I'm practicing a little bit, yes i traced a bit, yes i tried to do it w/o tracing it, no it didnt go well.

This is one of a few different hands I drew using this method and it's my favourite so I decided to post it here.

I drew overtop of a photo of my hand to draw a very general shape of what it looked like, more a guideline than anything else, then i moved the photo to the side and used it as a reference.

The main thing I'm noticing here is that it's very hard to do fine details or shading with only black and white. Normally i solve this by just adding in a third colour as shading but sometimes (like right here) it doesn't fit the vibe of what im trying to do. I plan to do more practice like this and look at more methods of shading and drawing fine details, possibly checking out different brushes and stuff like that.

I'll always draw cute cartoony comics, but I'd also love to start drawing more detailed and realistic drawings.
