WTF!!! You didn't watch the after-credit scene?? Hi Brianna. I know you don't read these comments, but I'll post this anyway. You missed what Netflix forbade, which was the last scene! Simon Barry insisted on its inclusion, and after much arguing, he got his wish, much to the chagrin of the 'powers-that-be' who wanted the show to conclude just as you 'thought' it finished. They had already planned to cancel after the second season and wanted a proper conclusion. The Divinium Sword always glows when the Warrior Nun is near, and Ava is back, ready to kick more ass and get back with her lovely Bea. π₯° Geek-out time!! Now that you've finished the series, (BTW, it has been renewed) let me fill you in on the lore. So, no spoilers to worry about. Firstly, you say you have some experience with Christianity, so you may understand some of this story. I am not religious per say, but I am a history nerd. All humans are religious. It is in our make-up, our inner-soul-being, to believe in something or someone: some entity that will save and redeem us. For you, perhaps that belief is Buddhism. For others it is Politicians, or Global Warming, or Elon Musk or Taylor Swift. Conventional religion is waning, and so humanity grasps desperately at alternatives. These alternatives involve false prophets, preaching all sorts of lies and propaganda in order to brainwash the masses, and have us follow their falsities like lost sheep. As a result, they gain power and wealth. This is the overall theme of Warrior Nun, but the story is way deeper and infinitely more complex. If you are at all familiar with the biblical story, Ava is Jesus, (who died and rose again, to save mankind) and the warrior sisters and Father Vincent, are the twelve disciples. (Count them) Of course, one disciple betrays Jesus, and we know who that is in this parallel retelling of the 2000-year-old story. Lilith is mentioned in the bible, described as the winged creature of the night. The devil (Satan, AKA Adriel) is a fallen angel, who was cast out of heaven by God (Reya) and consigned to hell. And what more appropriate hell than a dungeon beneath the Vatican! Michael is the Archangel Michael, who was sent by God to earth to help save mankind. The Ark is a gateway to Heaven, and Adriel influenced young Michael to design it, via communicating through his Divinium. This is how he recruited Father Vincent, via his tattoos. Lilith was dragged to heaven by the Tarask, but she was expelled. She was found unworthy, (power hungry, selfish and uncaring) and went to the other place where she was 'tweaked.' At the end, she was released from Adriel's spell, and became good, ready to fight the last great battle, the biblically prophesied Armageddon, alongside her sisters. (Season Three?) Adriel's retelling of history is a complete lie, and yet it is very convincing. He placed the halo inside the first Warrior Nun, not because he loved her, but to hide it from the gatekeepers, the Tarasks, who are tasked with retrieving the halo before it falls into Adriel's hands. This warped recounting concept is used extensively throughout the show and relates to how history is written by the victors, or more accurately, by those who spin the best lie. Adriel is a false prophet, and the hypnotized follow blindly. As mentioned, this is so relevant to today's society. Good guys. like the Tarasks, are portrayed as monsters, but the monsters. like Adriel, are posed as saviors. One of the disciples loved Jesus. No guessing who that was in this version. Warrior Nun focuses mostly on the book of revelation, and the plagues and the end times are described in detail. Did you notice the similarities with Covid (disease) and Global warming? If you are a non-believer, you will be burnt by the sun. The plague of insects refers to human parasites, who feed of the vulnerable. There are so many analogies and references to what mankind believes, and at the end of the day, when the prophets are gone, humanity returns to normal. It is interesting how humans seek redemption, believing in righteous causes while desiring to be virtuous. Anyway, I've rambled long enough, probably to no one. Thank you for a fantastic heartfelt reaction. You will really enjoy Orphan Black and lookout for the interesting Easter eggs and social commentary. OB is awesome! And it has a fantastic conclusion. BTW, Sister Dora was Shotgun Mary's stunt double. She was so amazing they gave her a part. Hopefully Mary will return in season three. Cheers. π
