Questions needed!

Hi folks, the DrunkFriend podcast needs some new general retrogaming questions to ask guests. Post them here, and we'll ask away

In fact, it doesn't even need to be retrogaming related, ask whatever you want, and we'll get to it

The consoles in the plastic bubbles where you had to look straight up and play with sticky controllers

Opinions on playing new games before they came out on display systems at Walmart or K-smart etc

Oh great question. Nintendo Power used to have these mini-catalogs around 93/94 where they sold all types of stuff. It's how I got my CT guide. I'd imagine a LOT of that stuff is super hard to find now...

Since it was harder to come by back in the day, what is some retro video gaming memorabilia that people really like (posters, figures, other artwork etc.) ?

Besides Waterworld, what is your favorite SNES soundtrack?

Would you rather fight one T-Rex sized duck or 100 duck-sized T-Rexs?

Are there any design convention on retrogames that specifically annoys you? For example, taking damage or instakill by just touching the bosses even when they are not attacking, getting shot from offscreen, etc

Everybody knows good games that have aged badly. What are some “bad” games that have aged well? (Dracula X would be my pick)

Hotel Mario as a Turn-Based RPG

I actually really loved Crystal Pepsi.

What game would you like to see redone with a concept change? (ex. Gyruss as a 3D shooter or Zelda as a point and click adventure) Would add that this doesn't need to be redone now - it could be redone in it's time.

Do you find that your YouTube assignment play dictates what you play for leisure or vice versa? Or are these not mutually exclusive? Have you ever considered doing a one off video or limited series not pertaining to video games, but rather another interest (i.e. sports, music, game peripherals, the smell of napalm at various times of day, etc)? What game innovations or mechanics are guaranteed to draw you in to a game when playing it for the first time? Conversely, what mechanics or cliches are a near instant turn off? Do you feel that leaps forward in technology, that allow for more cinematic experiences have benefitted gaming and narrative as a whole? Do you feel that the more cinematic games have become, the less the player’s imagination helps form the narrative? Do you harken back to a time with simple mechanics and simple narratives that allow your mind to fill in the blanks? Do you have a gaming routine? Are there constants when you decide to devote time to gaming specifically? Are these routines the same or different for leisure play and assignment play?

What's your take on LCD vs CRT TVs?

Final question: Should every copy of Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball be tracked down and thrown into the same landfill Atari threw all the unsold copies of ET?

Something toy & video game related: Have you seen the Super Mario Lego Sets (especially the NES & TV) and is it something you'd be interested in checking out?

Given what Square Enix did with FF7 Remake (and the estimated 5-6 years it will take to completely release - if they ever actually do), what are your thoughts on Chrono Trigger/Cross getting a similar remake?

If you could drastically lower the price of one expensive retro game, which would it be and why?

Non-Retrogaming related... In the words of Van Halen, what discontinued drink do you wish you could have 'right now'? (Crystal Pepsi's poisonous, but well advertised, time on this Earth was too short) -Brad from Brooklyn

Retrogaming related... You are the newly anointed Monarch of Video Games. For your first royal decree, what one game design rule would you require every video game past and present to follow? (It could be anything from allowing gamepad remapping to visual elements to requirements on tutorials, etc.) Bonus: You need to arrange a royal video game marriage for your child - you have received offers from all the great video game noble families (Mushroom Kingdom from Mario, the family of the King of All Cosmos from Katamari, Zelda and Ganon's families in Hyrule, and so on). Whose do you accept? - Brad from Brooklyn

What old TV show or movie would make an awesome game today?

Have you tried the trials of mana remake ? How do you feel about it compared to the original ?

With the looming threat of incomplete (i.e. needs multiple patches) or digital-only games disappearing when the servers and networks go dark, will the simplier 32-bit and less Retro Scene still be moved away from, or will it get a second renaissance? Essentially will the "hot" retro systems keep going past Game Cube and Dreamcast and embarrass the PS3 and XBox 360 with libraries of defunct and inaccessible (and lost) games, or will people look to the Minis/Classics and FPGAs for entertainment on the thriftier side

Wild Guns SNES Overrated or Underrated? Worth the price?

What sounds/music in games made you tense up or get stressed out? Examples: music speeding up at the end of a Mario level; the dinging noise in Zelda games when you are low on health.

Are retro inspired independent games oversaturate current gaming landscape?
