Podcast questions?

Hello, just thought I'd put up a new post for any podcast discussion questions anyone may have? We love answering these (our guests do too), so any gaming related questions you may have, please post them here, and we'll answer them as soon as we can!

"We" = me and my co-host Travis. Link is here: https://link.chtbl.com/OxWjbR12

Who's "we"? I just recently started watching/listening to podcasts. Is there a link here?

When you started your channel did any of you do something to bring attention to it? Like did you advertise it to anyone or any site? Did you share it amongst close friends? Or did you not bother with the advertising?

Excellent question. We may discuss this with our next guest at length...

Okay, one more: Best OPTIONAL mini game as part of an overall game.

Just thought of another. This is less gaming related and more about the process. How much influence does listener/viewer feedback have on your process in making videos and podcasts? Can you think of any specific instances where a constructive comment or review has changed the practice or perception of your work? Any examples that made you steadfastly refuse to sway? Has the value of feedback become more or less impactful as you progress and gain subscribers?

Nice! Thanks, Rob!

I'd like to know what games you both have been the most addicted to?

Robert Ring

Like you said, tutorial stuff is more of a recent thing, but I can't help but appreciate that games like DKC or MMX are just like, "Welp, here ya go, enjoy!" Still, this is an interesting question, since it makes you think of level design in a more subtle manner... we'll have to think about this, thanks!!

I know that tutorial sections are a more recent gaming construct (although I’ve always argued that Super Mario Bros. 1-1 is a perfect tutorial), I find that some tutorials are a slog, and some are so subtle you’d barely notice them. What games do you think do tutorial sections the best? The worst?

Man, we're getting some really good questions here... thanks Brad!

In 30 years, do you think 'retro-gaming' as a term will include everything from Atari to PS5? Will we start to forget the older games or will some endure? (And just wanted to thank you for reading a question I'd e-mailed on a recent podcast - my head popped up like a prairie dog when I heard it) - Brad from Brooklyn

Nice! Great question

Do you play video games outside of what you play for content for the channel? Do you play other types of games? Board/tabletop rpg/magic/pokemon/etc?

John

What do you think about paid emulators (see 3dSen for reference), and where that could lead vintage gaming?

Has it ballooned that quickly?? Sheesh. It's really just a blur at this point, it's been a very strange surreal ride so far. Good discussion topic though, esp the question about what I'd tell my 2013 self. I honestly don't know, I'd have to think about that one...

I have not, what's it like?

Easy answer for me but good discussion topic

When I subscribed to your YouTube Channel in fall 2018, I believe you had between 50-60k subs, less than 2 years later that number has tripled. Curious on your thoughts what led your channel to grow so much in the last 2 years? And somewhat related, what advice would you give SNESDrunk circa 2013 about starting his YouTube Channel?

Have you ever checked out Kururin series? There are a couple GBA games, but I have only played the Japan-only GameCube game. It looks like a game series that you might enjoy.

Favorite SNES shmup?

Speaking for myself, the second it feels like work is the second I stop... but this is a great discussion topic. Thanks

How does making gaming videos affect your relation to gaming as a hobby? Does gaming feel like work to you, do you compartmentalize gaming into gaming-for-youtube and leasure gaming or something?

Smash TV is the first one that came to mind for me too! Good question

What games best use the SNES Controller layout (maybe Smash TV), and which had to compromise (i.e. Street Fighters) ?

Travis Morton

Also have you ever considered designing a 16 bit game? Or what you'd really like to see in a snes style game?

Great question

What snes games do you think deserve a modern sequel or remaster similar to links awakening?
