Yeah, sneakers and such really took off in the 1980s with Michael Jordan's Nike Airs. In ESPN's "The Last Dance" 10-part documentary, when Nike first signed MJ to promote the Nike Airs, they were hoping to sell maybe $3 million worth of those shoes in the first year. They sold $126 million. In 1980s dollars. I have a few in my sneaker collection, but nothing even close to the hundreds that some of the more fanatical have.
