Ok differentiating Warlocks based on the nature of their relationship with their Patrons.... they are cultists basically, full pyramid scheme, they go up by tiers to get ever closer to become an avatar of their Patron, they are assertive, back-stabby, and want to BECOME something similar (or greater) than their Patron, as opposed to clerics who are more conservative, servants, trust on the will of their god more than on their own judgement and wouldn't rebel against them. So invocations, like the occult knowledge they may represent, are locked behind a certain tier, maybe requiring a certain amount of deeds to have been accomplished (also works for paladin's devotion, barbarian's honor, etc, it could be tracked and used as currency for boons outside normal leveling).

Arcane Focus is so bleh in DnD, you just take them from granted as base to all casters. Warlock would be a great opportunity to do something about that, it makes sense for a physical representation of their pact to be very important to them (their chain, their book, their ethereal weapon, etc). Their pact means their Patron wants something from them so maybe enforce it in some way like a compulsion, pain if you do the opposite of that compulsion. Your Patron could have a 'favored foe' kind of thing and grant you extra boons when you are going after them. I feel most of these step on the cleric and paladin's toes but aren't they really the same just with a more defined relationship with their font of power? Tough

I agree with the Paladin devotion being to something more primal and ancient than gods, they represent concepts like faith itself, conquest, retribution, etc. If there are gods aligned with that in the setting that is cool but if they commune with those gods then what is the difference with a cleric? It would be so cool for a 'truth' paladin to eventually become a rival for a 'truth' god because they both borrow from the same concept but have small differences in interpretation or there is friction applying those primal concepts to a particular event and that broke their relationship (between the god and the paladin). So basically, that paladin is losing faith in their god but not devotion to the concept so they are ok, as opposed to the cleric who can maybe lose conviction on the concept but still have faith on the god and that keeps them also balanced in their own way.
