Journal Prompt "Worst Case Scenario"
Added 2025-02-05 18:35:47 +0000 UTCWhen you think of possible outcomes to your problems do you think worst possible scenarios or the best?
If you think worse, can you remember when you decided it was better to catastrophize than believe in your dreams?
If you think best case scenarios can you think of 2 examples where you felt like having a positive outlook helped you achieve your goals?
Now, the challenge this week for the doomsday people is to try really hard to notice when you are having a doomsday daydream. Then, consciously try to see the outcome you truly desire instead.
If you are a positive projector already pay special attention to how that is working for you in your life.
Growing up felt awful and out of my control. It seemed that if it could go wrong, it would, and I conditioned myself to expect the worst. That was how I protected myself from the turbulence of my home life. If I was never surprised, I could feel safe. I took that with me into adulthood, where I actually had some say in my destiny. Instead of immediately envisioning a beautiful, abundant life, all I could see was how everything was about to go horribly wrong, and it did. I finally snapped out of it and began to imagine a more beautiful life when I began to ask these sorts of questions to myself. Perhaps I could have a better job, more education, and love. The more I realized I could shape my own destiny through changing my thoughts and applying will and hard work. The more convinced I became that our thoughts shape our reality, and what we think about will be reflected in our outside world.
This is not hard work but requires persistence and patience. I wish I could change myself overnight or even in a couple of weeks, but that is just not the reality of change. (at least not usually) You can’t pick a fruit early and expect it to be juicy sweet. Just like you can’t say I’m ready before you have had time to ripen. So the challenge is to notice every time you daydream a negative outcome and to change it into the vision you want. It will not be easy at first so thats what the persistence is for, and the patience is to remember that no one requires perfection. Let me repeat, You do not need to be perfect to achieve beautiful things. You do not need to be perfect at any step in your spiritual journey. Embrace what you believe to be your flaws and move forward anyway. The only notion you need to subscribe to is progress over perfection. Dream a beautiful life for yourself because no one else will.

Being Scottish, the national mindset of my people can be boiled down to: Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

2025-02-05 22:44:44 +0000 UTCYou can't always control what's in front of you, but you can help mitigate the effects of a bad outcome. It's good to be positive. It's even more to be optimistic even in scenarios that don't go your way. For me, I like to plan everything I do and work thru whatever bumps I come across. As long as you have your health and support, the sky is the limit.
