Gigarobo: Complete Process

Awwyeah, this week we have the complete rundown on a project for the people at Gigarobo. This sculpt captures that gundam/anime robot look nicely and I was inspired to create a more stylish, animated paint job. I know it's a long video but for your viewing pleasure I've included some time stamps below.

As always feel free to ask questions and let me know what you think in the comments below. I had a small audio issue in this video where you may notice my voice sounds a little more boosted at the beginning.

I've also been including music beds in my recent videos and it seems everyone is digging the grooves :) After some digging I've found something like I've been looking for in this video, a simple and consistent set of war drums.

2:02 Airbrushed basecoat
10:11 Basing and wetblending remaining parts
17:47 Blacklining and edge highlights
19:50 Creating the animated effect
27:11Painting the Base and finding the drop shadow
41:27 Final white highlight
43:26 Closing Ceremony

Have a great weekend!

Haha, yes indeed, mother goat taught me many tricks..Or maybe it was a lack of supervision that lead to experimentation? Probably some kind of mushroom. Often times when I make a mistake I ask myself what that mistake could be if I was a little more intentional. Sometimes doing it wrong on purpose is the best way to control the chaos.

Awwyeah, the wizard walks by casting his magic and coloring worlds B) I'll be revisiting this style down the road, this was the first run at it and I can see expanding on the concept a bit and going a little harder on those stylized glares. Cheers buddy!

You sick son of a motherless goat, did I just see you coffee stain that base on purpose then soak it up and do it again?!? Not once, but twice...twice I say!?! What a novel way to turn a typical beginner's mistake into a cool effect.

This was a fun step away from your typical project, at least from what we usually see you working on. It's amazing how you can jump into any style, hit it with the lenz magic touch and step back out. Loved the S curves and reflections you created. Those hard highlights on the boots and knees to create that comic book/manga style on a 3D surface look really tough to do and you made it look so easy. Great model. Color choice was fun. This would for sure be a style that would push me WAY out of my comfort zone. Bet this was a really refreshing project. Amazing work Sam! Thanks for sharing it with us!
