354 - LOST HIGHWAY (1997) + FEMME FATALE (2002)

Hosts Josh and Jamie continue Noirvember with a discussion of two legendary auteurs repurposing the storytelling conventions and iconography of classic Hollywood noirs into extremely stylish, horny, and dreamy postmodern meta identity-crisis thrillers: David Lynch's hostile and repressed psychological horror deconstruction of the anxious, obsessive male noir protagonist in LOST HIGHWAY and Brian De Palma's gleefully voyeuristic and playfully trashy Eurosleaze update on the "bad girl" thriller in FEMME FATALE (2002).

See you all in a week's time where we'll be back over on the main feed continuing Noirvember! Keep it sleazy!

i didn’t think the lingering fear was of infidelity per se, more like the terrifying allure/power of sex, or maybe the lack of control in a sexual dynamic with a woman than overwhelms you. The powerlessness of a huge orgasm//getting exactly what you thought you wanted. I liked how it’s pure ecstasy for almost 3 whole movie minutes, Song of the Siren blasting, vibes mounting, he comes hard and she just looks at him and says “it’s ok.” Devastating.

Great episode but how do you fuck up the pronunciation of Robert Loggia’s name?! Do you know how many letters are in Loggia? Six fuckin letters!

Mystery Man is not just an extension of Fred an a “Devil on your shoulder” way but cold reality creeping in imo. That’s why he films things, it’s just raw images of reality that haven’t been clouded by Fred’s guilty psyche

I laughed that you mentioned the Natalie Wood thing and didn't mention that's Pete's girlfriend was played by her daughter!

Oh neat, you're doing the best film ever made this week. One of these days we should all of us take a full week to meditate on the sound of a broken electrical pylon, then back-to-back the LA trilogy. Who's with me?
