Another dark John Ford movie even more so than the Searchers is Sergeant Rutledge about a Rape/ Murder at an Army fort and a Black trooper ( most Calvary troops post Civil War were Black) is put on trial. Supposedly based on a true story using actual court transcripts but I cannot verify that.
