Comments

Hey guys, Andrew here. Just wanted to comment on a unique tonal shift that I saw in two movies recently. Weirdly enough one of them was Riddick, the third movie in the Vin Diesel franchise. The movie begins with Riddick betrayed and left for dead on an alien world, clearly the object of our sympathy (despite being a generally gruff anti-hero). He realises his only way off the planet is to set off a beacon making his location known to bounty hunters who’d love to claim the price on his head. He then hides and waits. The movie then undergoes a stark shift of perspective, and suddenly it becomes apparent that the bounty hunters have become the hunted. We stay with them as Riddick picks them off one by one. I feel this is noteworthy as during my recent monthly viewing of First Blood, I realised both how closely Riddick mirrors this structure and how few films I’ve seen attempt it. The film completely leaves John Rambo and stays glued to the police as he appears from out of the forest like Jason Voorhees. God that movie kicks ass. Anyway, love the show! Keep it sleazy!
