Citizen Kane (1941) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

The winner of our 1940s poll!

This is also #1 on the AFI's 100 greatest American films of all time (it seems that there are 2 list?! And it's #1 on both haha)

I love seeing a character change during a movie, and this is a great example of that. He changes, yet is consistent, and by the end, we really feel strongly about him.

It's sad to see, but also frustrating to see. I've known people like Kane (not to that extent... maybe because they weren't wealthy?) and it always seems like a sad existence.

It's a great watch for filmmakers, there's no doubt about that. I can't even imagine how groundbreaking this would be to see in 1941.

A technically wonderful film!!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much for being here and watching along with me!!

That is insane!! I would love to have that kind of disposable income 🤣

I just read today that one of the surviving 'Rosebud' sleds recently sold for $14,750,000 at auction! 😮

I don't think it's the greatest movie ever made either. I think for its time, it was cinematically adventurous and impressive. I don't remember that Simpsons reference, sadly 😅

Thank you for finally watching what is in most people’s opinion “The greatest movie ever made “ . I don’t agree, but I think it’s still a good movie. Also, now you finally get that “Simpsons“ reference, “There’s no cane in Citizen Kane” LOL 😆

Joe M

He's 25?! I honestly though he was nearing 40! I guess I don't know at what time on the movie he didn't have makeup or anything to make him look older 😅

Verowak

Impressive that Orson Welles was only 25 when he made it. And if you're interested, the making of the film is dramatized in "RKO 281". William Randolph Hearst, on whom Kane was based, was the grandfather of Patty Hearst, one of the most high-profile cases of Stockholm syndrome in the 1970s.

Unless a kid is really into filmmaking, I definitely would not recommend them to watch this movie lol And it makes perfect sense that it would be shown in any movie appreciation class, or movie history class!!

Verowak

Hahahahaha a slut named Rosebud! What a different movie that would have been 🤣

I had watched this as a youngster because I was curious about it. I found it interesting, but was lost in a lot of the story points and film making nuances. It wasn't until I watched it in my movie appreciation class in college did I actually, fully understand this movie. It's #1 on 2 lists? It should be #1 on every list.

Thank you, Vero! 🛷 I first heard about this movie in an episode of THE KIDS IN THE HALL (1988 through 1994), but due to their alluring Canadian accents and the fact that my television didn't have closed captioning, I thought they said, "he had a slut named Rosebud"! 😆 A few years later, I knew it was time for the budding cinephile I was to finally watch this classic, even though I thought I had been spoiled. I was delighted to discover the solution to the mystery, organically. 🙌
