I think the "Minus One" in normal movie naming conventions they add an increasing number to each subsequent movie and they have a franchise. But what if they want to go back and make an origin movie? Sometimes they call it "Zero" as an origin movie. But in the case of Godzilla there was already an origin movie, the old original one. Therefore... someone comes up with "Minus One" which comes before Zero... or earlier than zero. Or a new retelling of the origin. Okay but after coming up witch such a nice title... someone asks "So what does the Minus One stand for?" And so they have to come up with a story explaining it... for example, "Oh the place was already bombed out to like zero. Post war desolation. But even then another disaster, a new calamity comes..." It's as if a situation below zero... Zero Minus One. Except that... the title comes up at the end. Then it could be about Godzilla itself being at Minus One. Less than zero.
