Field of Dreams (1989) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

A Father's day movie reaction!

This is one of the most requested movies on the channel, and I finally get why!

A lot of unexpected comedy, but it was so natural and fun. A great story, great acting and overall just a lovely movie 🥰

Though I still may think of Robin Hood when I hear the name Kevin Costner 🤣

I still find it unbelievable that he didn't seem worried that they were going to lose the farm 😨

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much for being here and watching along with me!!

I couldn't do this without you <3

It's such a magical film!! And the fact that they don't have to explain anything and in the end it's a seamless story is just amazing. It's an odd one for sports movies since baseball is such an important aspect of it. But I completely get what you're saying. A very good example of a good actor being miscast. It just goes to show that not every actor is able to play any role. There's nothing wrong with that, some people just are really good at certain kinds of characters/movies.

Field of Dreams is another movie I loved growing up. There really aren't very many movies like it, at least not mainstream hits. It has one of those plots that runs entirely on magic, and doesn't even attempt to explain how things are happening. Yet somehow it's able to weave this spell where it still makes sense. (In a weird way, it reminds me of "Spirited Away" the Japanese animated movie, even though they're obviously totally different genres.) I'm not even sure I'd classify it in the sports genre, since none of the tropes of "sports movies" are present. (There are no opposing teams. You don't really get to know the individual players playing the sport, except for one. There is no "big game" at the end, so you're not invested in a conventional outcome.) As an aside: I kind of wish that Costner had never done Robin Hood. I feel like that movie alone (and his "eh, whatever" approach to an English accent) hurt his image as an actor more than any real-world scandal could have. (To be fair, I think Robin Hood was generally a good movie. He was just miscast.)

Kevin Costner looks like the sports type, so maybe that's why he ended up being in a lot of sports movies? lol That sounds like a great gift for fathers who loved this movie, and would be a nice surprise for them!! Thanks for sharing

I like that theory! It's definitely up for interpretation, though I wonder if the novel gives more information on this 🤔

I don't know what it is with Kevin Costner and sports movies, but he certainly does have his share of roles in them: Field of Dreams, For Love of the Game, Bull Durham, and Draft Day. And if you're ever interested in watching it, you might like "Eight Men Out", which is about the Black Sox scandal itself, which is only alluded to in FoD. Former MLB pitcher Drew Storen founded a distillery, Field of Dreams Whiskey, that actually uses corn from the farm in Iowa. I don't know if they ship internationally, but if you wanted to get your dad a bottle for Father's Day, here's their website: https://drinkfieldofdreams.com/

okay here's my more thought out theory of why Terence Mann could be unalive. The baseball players who had talent or had a love for baseball are allowed somehow to play again in the field of dreams (the "dream field"). Not everyone is allowed or maybe if their desire is strong enough maybe they could play... or maybe somehow they needed permission from the one who built it, Ray. Also we see Ray played in the field... so this playing is not limited to the dead - or more apt, the living and the dead may converge on this field... although mainly it was made for the dead baseball players (particularly for "Shoeless" Joe Jackson). Okay but Terence Mann was not a baseball player. His game was writing. Therefore if there was a "dream field" for him to play once again or to write once again as he did in his youth, it does not necessarily have to be on this baseball field - although probably the magic spills over from the dream field to allow other dreams especially when related to baseball. Anyway someone put out the theory that for those people to have come in their cars that night, there is only one possible way they could know about this field of dreams... and it was because they read an article about it "Shoeless Joe Jackson Comes to Iowa" and this is how they knew to come. In that "dream field of writing" that Terence partook in... he wrote an article in the past... about a field in Iowa. He wrote it before he actually came to Ray's farm to see it. He could have only done it when he was dead... in the future, his ghost wrote an article that appeared in the past. Even though we saw Ray visit 1972, he probably couldn't affect the flow of history... he just learned information. But... a young Moonlight Graham was able to hitch a ride in the present... and also later as an older ghost Doctor he was able to help the living. Therefore in a similar manner, Mann was able to help the field of dreams proactively (acted in the past) by doing what he does best, writing about it. When did he die? He could have died in the past, in the present or in the future. As he entered the corn he would have transcended time and space. Ray gave permission by commanding "You'd better write about it!" Terry responded "You bet I'll write about it. It's what I do!" And then in the end everyone's heart was healed...

Movies about sports always has me wondering if the actors just know how to play, or are just really good at beign consistent, OR if they had to do many takes to make sure they got the footing/playing right 😅

I'm so glad you loved the reaction, Carol!! I love that you became best friends with your mother, that must have filled her heart to the brim! Seeing you grow up to become her best friend 😭 Goodfellas and Dances with Wolves and Harvey are all on my list!! That list is massive, but they're on it at least 🤣🤩 No need to shut up, I LOVE reading comments and getting to chat, it's one of my favourite things to do <3

that camera shot in the end looked like it was one take. They're filming playing catch on the field and then the camera rises up into the air and we see in the back a line of car lights. Some who lived there commented the whole town came as extras and to simulate movement they were blinking their headlights. I noticed that every actor had to know how to play. Talking to Karen... watch his feet, an outfielder starts moving according to the angle of the bat they can tell which way the ball will be going... and we see this happen in a continuous camera shot, catching the fly ball and throwing it back. Also we see the "curve" ball in one shot struck and sent toward Ray who dives out of the way and the ball hits the bag. They might do a lot of takes but if all the actors could do what they do over and over then it's a lot easier.

It's such a heartwarming movie 🥰

Hot dog!! 🤣I love it since Jimmy Stewart is seen in this one hahahaha

Oh Vero!!! 👏🏼 I just loved your reaction! You get it!! So true about becoming an adult and seeing things differently. I was very much surprised to become best friends with my mother- I in my 40’s and she in her 60’s. ❤️ Yes, Ray Liotta RIP was Goodfellas. 👏🏼 Dances with Wolves is an absolute masterpiece! A must watch. Everyone gets caught off guard about this movie. That iconic phrase “If you build it, HE will come.” is most always recognized, and then you understand it once you watch the film. “Harvey” is an old black & white movie that’s cute. I haven’t seen it in years. It might be worth a watch. Not sure many people on the channel would care for it, but in your “off-time” if you run across it, I’d give it a shot. 😊 I watch this movie several times a year and it always tugs at my heart strings. I just love Annie, who is BEYOND supportive, and little Karen is just a darling little up-and-coming entrepreneur ☺️. Fun fact: MLB at Field of Dreams games are played on a field adjacent to this one. 😉 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MLB_at_Field_of_Dreams If you care to read about it. Pretty neat. I’ll shut up now, and let you get about your business this afternoon. Loving your channel and looking forward to all the great content to come!! 👍🏼❤️😊
