1960s movie suggestions!

Every week, there will be a post about movies of a different decade!!!

For this one, I've looked at all the movies that were made in the 1960s that are on the AFI list to make this poll!! The movies all have a runtime of less than 3 hours, and I didn't include West Side Story because it's a musical, and I'm not ready to tackle that genre quite yet for reactions.

Also, 2001: A Space Odyssey is not on there because I've always had it as a movie that I'll watch if the channel reaches 100k.

I haven't heard of most of these, so this will be fun!

Next Tuesday, there will be a post for 1970s, the Tuesday after that for 1980s, etc. The poll for the decade will be up on YouTube the following Tuesday evening or Wednesday at the latest.

If you have a suggestion for a way to do the next post (suggestions/like comments, suggestion and wheel spin, I create a poll for you, etc), let me know!!

So many good choices. Too bad The Manchurian Candidate has so few votes. Maybe sometime in the future.

David Martin

I would love to get to all of them!

Verowak

I hope you eventually end up watching most, if not all, of these.

An excellent choice, though I personally prefer the original "Seven Samurai". Of course, this is a poll for movies made in the 1960's, and "Seven Samurai" was made in 1954. (I will admit, however, that "The Magnificent Seven" has a much better soundtrack....)

Chris Gronau

"The Magnificent Seven" (1960) is probably THE archetype for the "Mid-Century Style" western. Plus iconic music for the music lover.

It seems like I need to watch a bunch of Sidney Poitier films, I've seen his name mentioned a lot

Verowak

That just means there are so many to discover and experience!! :D

Verowak

Sidney Poitier in To Sir, With Love (British, 1967). The original teacher goes to tough neighborhood movie, but the neighborhood is East End London.

LK

I probably misused that phrase but oh well, There is an actual movie "In Like Flint" (1967) a spy spoof of a film. But James Bond was a spoof to begin with.

Mannygogou

"I haven't heard of most of these..." ouch.. that one hurt.

John Zelinka

Yeah the AFI list is definitely not perfect, but I'm enjoying switching up the way that movies are figured out each decade lol I've only heard of A Fistful of Dollars from those three, which I do want to get to at some point

Verowak

In the Heat of the Night from 1967 with Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger would be my choice.

HappySad

Yay, I'm in! I'm in "like Flynn"...

Mannygogou

The problem with using the AFI list is that it only lists American made films. There are some *really* great films from the 1960's, such as Last Year at Marienbad (France), Hara-kiri (Japan) and A Fistful of Dollars (Italy), that don't make the list because they weren't made in Hollywood. That said, I voted for Psycho, although I probably would have voted for Hara-kiri if it had been an option....

Chris Gronau

I didn't know that lol thanks for letting me know :D

I don't know what the twist is, unless it's a planet of apes, then that would be a terrible twist. Oh, and I guess one or more humans encounter this planet of apes. That's the extent of my knowledge ๐Ÿ˜…

Verowak

Not a sadist at all. Just someone with terrible memory and forgetting to allow multiple choices ๐Ÿ˜…

Verowak

So many great ones, Vero!

AuntVes

The sounds of Psycho are lovely... can't wait for you to hear 'em.

Jimmie V

My Fair Lady (1964) is a musical, but it will not win this poll anyway.

Carl Evans

Most reactors shy away from 60s, 50s and even 40s movie not realizing there are some terrific movies in these decades. I think it's because it is a different method of storytelling. Instead of providing some exciting opening scene to generate a dopamine hit, back then the storytelling was a slow burn to build up suspense. For the 60s, I would suggest the original "The Planet of the Apes" (1968) with Charlton Heston. Even though the big twist has been ruined by pop culture, the journey to it is still worth it.

Miles E Coburn

Yes to everything but "Psycho", but only because I favor great comedy over great suspense...๐Ÿ˜ƒ

silverarrow06

"The Odd Couple" (1968) Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon at their best...๐Ÿคฉ

silverarrow06

You must be a sadist, because you are making it extremely difficult to choose just one. However, I ended up choosing Robert LeRoy Parker and Harry Alonzo Longabaugh

MrDannySteele

Well there is only 1 correct answer on this poll and that is Psycho :P Would love to see a modern Horror Poll! Things like Midsommar, The Substance, Get Out, etc
