Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Another 80s gem!

Not having a clue what this was about made it so much better! Well I assumed a day off of school, but nothing quite like how this movie played out.

I'm a fan of breaking the fourth wall like this. It's such a nice change from normal movies 😁

Just so much fun!! Also, I checked out the end credit scene!!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are amazing!!

I couldn't do this without you <3

My pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It really seems like John Hughes was an expert at writing stories that teenagers could relate to. It's not easy, that's for sure!

One of the few movies that really earns the moniker 'iconic'. This has influenced a lot of things in pop culture, so it isn't surprising you saw some similarities. John Hughes was a genius at not only telling stories that 80s teenagers could relate to, but also coming up with them so quickly. There are a bunch of his movies, and he defined the genre of 80s teenager movies - many tried to tell the same kind of stories. Of course, Matthew Broderick starred in a motion picture between War Games and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It's named Ladyhawke. :) If you ever get to that one, you will see some parallels between Ferris and his character in that movie. Great movie, and thank you for doing this one. Great job.

Damon Corrigan

Thanks for the film list, I didn't know he was in any of them! Movies that never get old are so great to rewatch every few years. Brings back memories :D

This was such a fun film! It's one of my favorites and it never gets old. I went to high school in the 90s but it the atmosphere was the same as here. Some other Matthew Broderick films you should check out are Project X, Glory and The Cable Guy.

Wade Wallenstein

Hahahahaha that's brilliant! It sounds like your brother really made the best of his days in high school haha. And you sound close, which is adorable!!

Oh hey also, you asked about "good" fourth-wall-breaking movies.. there's a lot, but I'd start with the more poplar ones (aka would actually get YT views) -- (and these are not in any specific order, just ones I know & love) The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) The Big Short (2015) Deadpool (all 3 of them) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) High Fidelity (2000) Wayne's World (1992) Goodfellas (1990) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) .. also The Truman Show (1998), which itself doesn't break the fourth wall, but.. you'll see. If you're in the mood for just plain silly/stupid, Mel Brooks does this all the time.. Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Yeah there's references to this movie all over the place in other media.. Marvel did it twice fairly recently -- Deadpool 1 (end credit scene), and Spider-Man Homecoming (you'll know it when you see it). You can find multiple essays/theses on this movie, it's a fairly significant cultural touchstone for those of us in a particular age group. It's also spawned some very fun and complex fan theories, such as: Ferris is repeating the same day over and over (the Groundhog Day theory), or Ferris doesn't actually exist (the Fight Club theory). In terms of Broderick, this was (IMO) pretty much the peak of his leading man career (he considers himself much more of a stage actor anyways). My next favorite movie of his after this & Wargames would probably be Election (1999). (BTW you reallllly don't have to feel sorry for Rooney if you go to the actor Jeffery Jones' wikipedia page and about scroll half way down)

My brother is 1,000,000% Ferris Bueller! He's the baby with four older sisters! We never hated him like Jeannie hates Ferris, but we were a little jealous, maybe! He ALWAYS got away with everything! He's so smooth! After I graduated, I used to pick him up for "doctor appointments"... even the orthodontist, when he didn't even have braces! Our mother delivered the mail for the post office, so there was no way for the school to verify his "appointments" with her! We'd go out to lunch, go to the beach, or go to a record/CD store we loved. Whatever we felt like. I would even take him to a big parking lot and let him drive my car! He shocked and confused our mom when she took him for a driving lesson, and he already knew how to drive a stick shift! One of my brother's famous moves was staying out past curfew. He knew our mom always fell asleep on the couch watching tv after dinner. He would be at his friend's house, and have his friend call and ask for him. My mom would yell up to his room for him to pick up. My brother would take the phone from his friend and say, "It's ok, Mom, I got it!", like he was home and in his room! She'd fall back asleep thinking he was home!!! Brilliant! Never once got caught! Couldn't do that today without a landline! My little brother still pays attention to the life going on around him and makes sure that he doesn't miss out!

I vaguely know of the TV series, though I don't think I saw any episodes haha. And you're welcome 🤣

My pleasure!

Oh I didn't know he was a stage actor, that's great to hear!

Weird Science is a movie I completely forgot about till you mentioned it. Got that song stuck in my head now too, lol.

Thank you, Vero! 📣

Thank you for your reaction! I enjoyed watching along. I think Matthew Broderick's main claim to fame is his work on the stage. He's a Tony award winner and I recall him starring in at least one Neil Simon stage production. He may have reprised the same role for the film, "Biloxi Blues", and I remember Matthew said in an interview that his drill sergeant in the film was Christopher Walken, and that his entire performance was different than the actor who had the role on stage.
