Top Gun: Maverick (2022) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

My gosh, what a movie!

The took everything that was great from the first movie, and either replicated it with great callbacks, or elevated it!

I didn't think we would get any Tom Cruise running bits, but I'm glad we did 🤣

I love the ending, though it wasn't a huge surprise, it was still really heartbreaking and amazing.

They really just called back so many things from the first movie so well!!

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are amazing!!

I couldn't do this without you <3

Thanks for all that info! I'm really glad they waited this long for the sequel since it was so incredibly well done. What they did for this movie is nothing short of extraordinary, and all of the actors worked really hard for it! I'm so glad you liked the reaction 🥰 I'm so glad to have seen these two movies There are a few Brendan Fraser movies that I want to watch in hopefully the near future 😉

I saw this movie in the theater 3 times and have now collected a full set including a digital download, 4K Blu-ray UHD, and the soundtrack on CD and Vinyl! Love it so much! It was worth every minute of the 38 years we waited! I'd like to add some more movie trivia.... Yes, Miles Teller actually plays piano and sings in this movie! 'Great Balls of Fire' is even on the soundtrack! He was incredible on the drums in Whiplash... so talented! He also plays saxophone and trumpet, and is a great dancer, too! He is definitely my favorite new pilot! The vintage baby blue Ford Bronco that Rooster drives up to the bar at the beginning of the movie actually belongs to Miles Teller! When Hangman goes to the jukebox to play the song 'Slow Ride', he pushes the numbers 8 and 6 for the first movie that came out in 1986! Tom put all of the pilots through 4 months of flight training so that by the time they got into the F-18, they could handle it. Also, the Navy required them to pass underwater survival training before they could fly. One of the tests was to get strapped into a seat in a simulated jet, in full gear, and blindfolded. Then they would drop the jet into the water, and they had to find their way out. They needed the actors to be ready if there was ever a problem. The real fighter pilots who worked with the actors said they thought for sure at least one actor would drop out... but none did! They all got sick flying in the jets, even Tom.... except for Phoenix ( Monica Barbaro)! She's a badass! There were a few times during the movie I got emotional, but Rooster's last line, "It's what my Dad would've done", just broke me! My brother was crying, too... even my husband got choked up!! I got a lot of my info from interviews with the cast and Tom. l dove straight down the YouTube rabbit hole! My best source was all of the bonus videos on Blu-ray. So many great videos. My father is a pilot, and we're so fascinated by how Tom Cruise and Director Joe Kosinski put this masterpiece together! Some of the most beautiful cinematography I've ever seen!!! Loved your reaction! Thank you for getting this sequel done so quickly! I know we were all begging for it! It was so great to have a reactor do both movies, since most had already seen the original Top Gun, already! For your next movie, may I suggest Blast From the Past (1999) starring Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone, , Sissy Spacek, and Christopher Walken! A naive man comes out into the world after being born in a nuclear fallout shelter and living his whole 35-year life underground! Love this movie so much, and they're working on a sequel to it, now!

Top Gun Maverick was shot in 2018 (covid delayed it's release), so it is actually 32 years after the original.

Thank you!! Tom Cruise is such a solid actor, I would always be up for watching one of his films. Though "Interview with the Vampire" intrigues me, because I never thought Tom Cruise would be in a vampire movie.

I remember it doing extremely well at the box office, and that people went to see it multiple times!! I think it deserves all the love it got, they did such a fantastic job all around

Verowak

I'm glad you liked the reaction! Just remember if there is a slower week, that there was this week's releases! haha Thanks for the trivia, I love the 33 rounds of ammunition, that's definitely a very subtle nod. I would have just assumed it's a random number, but clearly not!!

It seems like they really had fun with the script and callbacks, especially bringing in Penny too, that's hilarious! Bob was amazing! I don't know if the character was planned to be a favourite for people, but the actor really did a great job lol. I quickly looked at growler jams, thanks for sharing that. It's something that is so fascinating, and great to see in a non-movie format 🤣

I'm so glad they have a goal from the beginning, that was such a weird development in the first film. The end felt so random lol There are definitely some kinds of movies that I am not inclined to watch lately, that's for sure lol

Verowak

It's fantastic when we don't expect much but get to be pleasantly surprised :D

Verowak

That's amazing, going to see it in a military movie so you could have a similar experience to the first one!! Strangely enough, normally movies that have THAT many callbacks and similarities to the first movie tend to be a "cheap copy" but that's not the case for this one at all. They did a really great job balancing the callbacks and nostalgia with modern aspects

Great reaction as always. Tom Cruise just doesnt disappoint. Even the TC films im not very fond of i can never say that they are objectively bad films. Definitely check out Minority Report and A Few Good Men for more of his peak performances.

What makes this movie so significant is that they started shooting in 2018 finished in 2019. It was supposed to premiere in theaters in summer 2020 the pandemic happened. So the movie didn't come out until summer 2022 and it killed in the box office in a great way. Amazing for a sequel especially after 36 years later. when they began shooting in 2018 it had been 31 years since the first Top Gun movie came out. This sequel is defiantly one of the few sequel's that is really good.

Christopher Palmer

This was a great reaction to a fun movie. The Queen's Gambit, The Hunt for Red October and Top Gun: Maverick all in the same week. You're spoiling us. 😁😁😁 Just a few bits of trivia that I thought were interesting: The P-51 Mustang that Maverick works on with Rooster at the end of the film is actually Tom Cruise's personal airplane. It was a present from his wife. Val Kilmer was completely unable to speak when the movie was made (throat cancer), so his voice was computer generated based on his speech patterns and dubbed into the film. When Maverick is dogfighting with the jet at the end of the movie, at one point there is a close-up of his ammunition counter showing his gun has 33 rounds of ammunition left. That's a throwback to the fact that 33 years passed between the filming of the two movies.

Best sequal since T2, especially from the decades later sequals. Penny was in the last movie (in name) at the beginning when chewed out about fly bys on control towers and one admirals daughter, goose leaned over and whispered "penny benjamin?" Bob was my favorite, his little sniper level return fires to hangman were awesome coming from such a mild mannered person making hangman's stealth pilot comment even funnier. During the dogfight football scene, they dubbed over the volleyball audio from top gun into it. You can hear slider's yell timed with hangman shout after spiking the ball. Related but off topic, there is a great channel called growler jams. He does some over the shoulder of take offsets and landings on carriers, including taxi and what not. Just an interesting view. Short vids.

See? I told yah the sequel was better! 😃 It’s because they have a specific goal set out from the beginning that they’re working on throughout the movie. We know the stakes and the difficulty of the mission so there’s an anticipation built up from the beginning that you become invested in which the first film didn’t really have. Plus it hits you in the feels with the music and Gooses son. Completely off topic but I’m really sorry that we’re bullying you guys right now. I can’t even begin to tell you how embarrassed I am. I’m not sure if it makes it difficult or not for you to enjoy movies that glorify the U.S in any way right now. Take care!

10/10 film for me. Wasn't expecting much from a sequel that came decades later, but oh boy was i surprised!

Now I have something to watch this morning. I remember seeing the first movie in a military movie theater because my dad was in the US Air Force. For this sequel I knew I needed to have a similar experience. So I decided to schedule a visit to my family who live in San Diego so that I could watch it at Marine Corp Air Station at Miramar where the orginial Top Gun school was when they shot the first movie (the current location for Top Gun is in Nevada). When the first notes of the Harold Faltermeyer score started playing I actually had chills up and down my spine and started tearing up because the nostalgia was too much. This was the perfect film and came out at the perfect time just after Covid because this needed to be seen in a fully packed movie theater. The movie itself was great and the perfect blend of nostalgia and modern film making.
