Reminder/Info/TV series suggestions (please read)

Reminder

Just a quick couple of things, I know I've mentioned this a few times in previous posts, but I want everyone to have a chance to vote for the movies that they want to see put into a poll.

That being said, please take some time today to go through all the comments (and add your own if you haven't yet) in this post and like the movies that you want me to react to. I'm making my poll tomorrow to go out this week 🥰 The top 15 comments will battle it out to see who is the victor!

Info

With only a few episodes left in Rebels and Fallout, please do not give any spoilers about upcoming events, or even expectation spoilers like "I can't wait for you to watch episode 7 of Fallout!!!" or anything else that gives away important upcoming episodes. Discovering a world and the events happening as they happen is so great. There are actually a few others who are watching these for the first time alongside me (which is amazing!), so I'm not the only one affected by spoilers.

Those kind of expectations tend to downplay my reaction for the episode, or the events of the episode themselves. Remember when you were watching a show for the first time and every week you got to be surprised if the episode was a filler, or a focus on your favourite character, or was a pivotal moment of the series. I tend to overthink things, and can usually figure out a lot of things based on expectation spoilers 😅

I completely get that you are excited for certain episode/movie reactions, but giving away any information does hinder things.

All this to say that I kindly ask you to not give any expectation spoilers or outright spoilers.

This is not aimed at anyone in particular. With people coming and going on Patreon, this is something that I should remind people of more often, that's it 🥰

TV Series suggestions

With Andor coming out on April 22, and The Last of Us coming out in April at some point, I'm looking to fit a limited TV series between Fallout and TLoU. I am currently thinking of watching Dune: Prophecy as an in-between (it's 6 episodes long), but perhaps there are others out there that you would prefer!

What I'm looking for are limited TV series (1 season in total, or so far only 1 season has been made) that are up to a maximum of 7 episodes long. Ideally between 5-6 episodes, since TLoU doesn't have a release date set yet😒

Feel free to recommend some in the comments. Please only have 1 series per comment and if you could like the ones that you would love to see, it will help me gauge interest in them. 🥰

Fallout 1

Every Sunday at 2pm EST / 8pm UTC I play Fallout 1 on stream on Twitch if you want to stop by. I'll be lightly editing them for YouTube, and once I post them, I'll make a post here to let you know!

My ramblings are over, I know it's a lot of info 😅

I hope your weekend is going well, and I hope to do a live stream on YouTube to chat and hangout in the near future 🥰

Comments

I have no idea what Peacock is, but in Canada it's available on Global, which I had no idea had a streaming service haha

Verowak

The Day of the Jackal. S2 is in the works, but hasn't started production. S1 is available on Peacock.

Tim Heron

I want to see that, but I want to watch them all together. If I watch part of a series, I tend to completely forget what I saw before, even if they're all stand alone episodes, I like sticking to a series. Like I wouldn't want to see a comedic series partway through, then switch to something serious. Black Mirror is on my list though!!

Verowak

Complete series 8-ep set https://www.amazon.com/s?k=horatio+hornblower+dvd+complete&crid=3HVZ1OJG8ARO&sprefix=horatio+hornblower+dvd+complete%2Caps%2C108&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

JAKH

I don't have a Marvel fanbase since I saw the movies before starting my reaction channel. So Marvel shows probably won't be watched unless I try MCU rewatches first to judge interest to be honest.

Verowak

"Black Mirrror" would be another possibility for an "in-between" TV-series. Every episode is its own story, so you could just view as many as you want and stop anytime.

Markus E.

"Happy Valley" is an excellent British crime drama. Each season of 6 episodes is about a different criminal case and is self-contained, so you could only watch season 1.

Markus E.

Yes, amazing choice great miniseries from start to finish!

ded cowbowee

Godless (2017) on Netflix is an excellent western that is 7 episodes. Jeff Daniels is an amazing villain. I believe he won an Emmy or some major award for his performance.

DHC Len

Here's hoping we get some more 'Moon Knight' in our lives.. one of the best Marvel shows to come out.

Excellent choice. IMDB 8.7

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (2015)

Chris Gronau

I respectfully disagree with the person who doesn't think DUNE: PROPHECY (2024) is worth your effort. I loved it. My boyfriend who is a huge fan of the novels even loved it, despite its deviation. If enough people want it, but more importantly, if you want it, I say give it a shot.

AuntVes

Too bad, It really is a great series. It really has the spirit of the books it's based on.

Scott Howard

Lonesome Dove (1989) Best roles for both Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones

Scott Howard

A fantastic suggestion, and I would love to see a reaction to it.

Chris Gronau

Nobody has ever heard of it so it’s unlikely that you’ll watch it plus it’s 8 episodes, but I’m gonna recommend Mrs. Davis because it’s a great, fun, absurd show that I love and more people should watch.

Razor Bikini

I stick to what I can get via Canadian streaming services mostly. I check YouTube with US VPN, and most streaming services don't work if I use a VPN. Like Prime video using US VPN doesn't work. It's not streamable or rentable in Canada based on JustWatch, which means I most likely won't react to it.

Verowak

I have it on discs, so I have never looked for it online. You probably do a more thorough search than I can help with, especially for non-US streaming. It was a cooperative production between BBC and the American "A&E" cable channel, so I'm not sure if it might be on the BBC home site or a specialized service like BritBox. A quick search on JustWatch.com shows it's available on AppleTV and ITVX if you go through a UK-based VPN server. A click on the "where to watch" link on the IMDB page shows the full 8-ep series disc set for under US$20 on Amazon. Sorry I can't help more than that unless you are interested in hoisting a black flag. (shrug)

JAKH

"Moon Knight" (2022) 1 season, 6 eps. Based on a Marvel Comic, but so far a stand-alone without any crossovers with any other part of the MCU. Starring Oscar Isaac.

JAKH

Good viewing order… Farscape (one of the best villains ever) Babylon 5 (Lord of the Rings in space) Stargate Star Trek

TeatroGrottesco

That one is on my list to watch yeah

Verowak

I have no idea where I could even watch that one. It doesn't seem to be anywhere

Verowak

There's Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Star Trek, Babylon 5.... It seems I really need to get to some sci-fi series lol

Verowak

It's terrible; I did not make it 20 minutes to the first episode. The issue is it’s not based on anything Frank Herbert wrote. It’s based on what his son and Kevin J Anderson wrote. Kevin J Anderson is the hack that you bring in to turn out novels for your intellectual property i.e. Star Wars. Neither of those two can write. Their works pale in comparison regarding the depth of character development, politics, intergroup power dynamics, and the intersection of religion and politics of Frank Herberts novels. It’s basically if the CW had made Dune.

TeatroGrottesco

It is longer than your limit, but at some point in the future (maybe not for this short schedule opening), I think that you would like "From The Earth to the Moon" (1998) 12 eps. HBO series by Tom Hanks & Ron Howard. Music by Michael Kamen. The NASA space program starting with Mercury and Gemini, but mostly focusing on Apollo.

JAKH

Hmmmm… well amnesia counts for something…. 🤔 Then I replace the recommendation with Farscape. 🤍🖤

TeatroGrottesco

Since you liked "Master & Commander", how about: "Horatio Hornblower" (1998-2003) 8 eps. Starring Ioan Gruffudd

JAKH

I am talking about the animated version that basically made Cartoon Network.

MrDannySteele

I've seen and read the Expanse. I don't remember most of it, but it still wouldn't be a first time watching sadly

Verowak

Oh no, why not? I heard it was great! :D

Verowak

at some point, I would take a look at Black Books as well.

TeatroGrottesco

"Dune" aka "Frank Herbert's Dune" (2000 version) 3 episode mini-series + "Children of Dune" (2003) 3-episode mini-series

JAKH

No. No. No. 😂😂

TeatroGrottesco

with your love of Firefly, you should really look at The Expanse and Cowboy Bebop.

TeatroGrottesco

I think that could fit my rules yeah. I forgot that 30 minute episodes were a thing and assumed all series had 45+ minute episodes 🤣

Verowak

Dune Prophecy is not worth the time. True Detective Season one is perfect for a short run, but high effect. One of the single best runs of television ever. Plus, we can talk about the plagiarism of it.😂😂

TeatroGrottesco

Excellent Mini Series IMDB 8.5

Spoiler School - Bill shows Cricket his favorite movie, Constellation Battles! If only Bill could stop spoiling the movie… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFSPV87lS3I

thebeefmaster

"Shogun" (1980 original version) 5 ep mini-series. Staring Richard Chamberlain & Toshiro Mifune.

JAKH

Well, and it's hilarious xD Btw, those are two seasons with six 30min episodes each, so maybe it (or at least the first season) could fit within your rules?

FermatSim

"The Days" (2023) 8-eps. *True Story* of Fukushima Dai-Ichi over the 7 days after the 2011 tsunami. Very interesting to contrast the Japanese governmental/management culture to the Soviets in "Chernobyl". Japanese w/ English subtitles.

JAKH

"True Detective" (2014) Anthology series, each 8-ep season is a self-contained mini-series, new characters and location each season, so you can do one season and then take a break.

JAKH

I haven't seen "Fleabag", I just know it's British and Andrew Scott is in it

Verowak

One of the funniest shows ever! IMDB 8.8. Do a 6 episode season now and the other 6 episode season, when needed, at another time. Each episode stands alone.

thebeefmaster

It's definitely tough, but I don't want to start a new series and stop partway through lol

Verowak

The Queen's Gambit (2020)

Verowak

The 7-ep limit makes it tough. "Reacher" (2022) each 8-ep season is a self-contained story, so you can do one season and then take a break. Season 3 in post production.

JAKH

The Night Of (2016) Mini Series IMDB Score 8.4 Won 5 Primetime Emmys https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2401256/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_the%2520night%2520of

thebeefmaster

Regarding series, you definitely should watch 'Twin Peaks' some time, but that's a but much until April. Have you seen "Fleabag"? It's British, hilarious and quite short (12 episodes à 30min).

FermatSim

Yes, exactly it! I put a reminder in my phone to post something like this every few months, just to remind people since it can be easy to forget or get excited about something. This is SO common in YouTube comments. I got quite a few on my Fallout YT video, and thankfully I'm already halfway through the season on here. I love movies or series with cameos, starting it and not expecting it is so much fun!!!

Verowak

Oh yeah, currently I'm looking for something between Fallout and The Last of Us which starts in April :)

Verowak

I'm glad Vero mentioned about 'expectation spoilers'. They aren't frequent but exasperating when they do appear because it's hard to say anything about them after the fact without perhaps the OP feeling singled out or picked on. It's enough when someone states, "...and the sequel is even BETTER!", or "Can't wait for the reveal at the season finale!" I understand that some may feel that these are not specific spoilers, per se, but they build anticipation and expectation from the first-time viewer who will be looking for *something* during the entire film or episode. When I watch a movie or a series for the first time, I don't want any hints about what's to come. If I did, I'd do an internet search and read episodes' synopses.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Twin Peaks. The first prestige TV show and the most wild (especially on its return). It's also a relatively short series (48 episodes plus a movie in the middle). If you liked walking away from Mulholland Drive with lots of questions instead of answers, this will do that and then some.

Jimmie V

"Wednesday" 🙂

silverarrow06

It does, I was thinking more long term.

MrDannySteele

I thought Teen Titans had multiple seasons 🤔

Verowak

Teen Titans, the original and the best version

MrDannySteele

Oh sneaky, I forgot some shows are 30 minutes long episodes haha.

Verowak

It's so fun, though it's bringing out evil Vero sometimes 😇

Verowak

Dune: Prophecy (2024)

Verowak

So happy you're playing Fallout 1.

Brandon Dodge

Gonna throw this out there.. 'Fawlty Towers'. It's 12 episodes but theyre around 30 mins each so it kind of evens out? Something to look into. Obviously no spoilers.. but it's properly brilliant!
