Dave (1993) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Reacting to a reactr request!

What a swell movie! Definitely best to go in with no idea what will happen, I saw the trailer after and I'm glad I don't watch trailers anymore lol

Overall just a sweet movie about doing good things for people, and just wanting to help. I love the theme of him finding people jobs and he ends up doing that for the country.

His amazement at just being in the White House at first is adorable, and seeing Luther was unexpected but so very much a bonus! I'm not used to seeing him with hair so it took me a while to notice him πŸ˜…

Also, I clearly don't know Ben Kingsley well enough to spot him out of a line up 🀣

Sigourney Weaver is as great as usual, her subtle expressions worked so well here. The slow realization of everything was perfect.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, you are amazing!!

It's such a great and positive movie, I definitely get how it would be so popular when it came out. I tried looking up movies that Kevin Kline was in and it seemed like he didn't really do too much (at least for movies that I recognized πŸ˜…). Hollywood has definitely not just recently become socially conscious, look at Star Trek!! 🀣 It's really interesting to think how a movie would be received if it was made in a different decade. Maybe it's because anonymity online has just made everyone more comfortable with being negative, but most of the times I see "what is wrong with" or "how this movie failed" instead of pointing out the positives of things. I personally don't care what is wrong with X movie if I enjoyed it. I have no interest in dissecting a movie to focus on what I dislike. That's why I love this community, sure people may not like some movies, but no one bashes it endlessly and gets into arguments with others who disagree. /rant over, and your last paragraph really said it well lol

I saw this twice in theaters when it was out. I remember just how into the movie the crowd was. (I think back then, the crowds were generally way more into the theater experience than they are now, which I have theories about.) Literally every single joke landed with the audience. And I specifically remember that when Dave fires Bob Alexander, a guy in the audience whispered to himself, "Yes!" This movie (along with the romantic comedy "French Kiss") made us into big Kevin Kline fans. Dave was actually a pretty big success when it came out. It's kind of funny to hear how pressured screenwriter Gary Ross was at the time - not only because this movie did end up being successful, but because Ross has had a pretty good career. He wrote/directed both "Pleasantville" and the first "Hunger Games" movie. Lastly, just an observation. This is such a benign, charming, sweet and optimistic movie. I think Roger Ebert compared it to a Frank Capra film. In the early 90's, audiences embraced it, and that was that. However, I'm convinced that if such a movie came out today, it would create a crap-storm on social media, sparking outrage from the usual quarters about how Hollywood is indoctrinating the kids, shoving messaging down our throats, etc. There's a standard narrative going around that claims that only in recent years has entertainment become socially conscious or political (or "woke"), and that in the "good old days" movies had no messages and "just wanted to entertain. "Dave" is clear evidence that this perception is false. Not only did it have a message, but at the time, that message was in no way seen as controversial.
