Rebels 3x20 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

THE MOMENT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!

I'm glad that I don't look at the episode title when I go to watch these. My webcam is conveniently positioned to block the very top left corner of my screen so I don't see the title haha.

Maul is just so insanely focused on Kenobi. He'll cross deserts, survive being bisected and anything else the universe throws at him. I wasn't expecting Obi-Wan to be so much stronger though. Power scaling is always something that I have issues with, so in order for this to make sense, Maul must have been blinded by his emotions and overconfident because his eternal rival is now old.

I'm always wanting to figure out where everyone is power wise, but it's just not that simple.

I'm sad that this is the end of my favourite Sith 😥  I was hoping that he would survive. He will be avenged though! Take that Palpatine!

It's a sweet episode, and Ezra showed maturity which I was not expecting. But I guess if Master Kenobi says something, you listen!

Next up.. a two-parter!!! 🤩😍

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

I'll have to listen to Ben Kenobi from episode 4, it's been so long since I heard it, so it sounded so weird from my point of view haha. It makes sense to not have Ben jump around, since the fight is very clunky in Episode 4, it's just not at all what I'm used to, especially from animated Star Wars haha. I love the amount of work they put into these episodes and the fights, it really shows how passionate some people are

I would love a "What if" with Maul not being so focused on Revenge. That would be really interesting to see. Power levels are so hard to know, since in the OT, it seems like Vader and Obi-Wan are really not that great of fighters, so I assumed it was due to age. Which is why I also didn't think Obi-Wan would win so easily against Maul. This is where it gets tough for me to remember that the OT was done way earlier, and the fights weren't as well choreographed lol

Verowak

I just wanted to see Obi-Wan go all out and have an epic fight. It's still a great fight, just not as flashy as I was hoping haha

Verowak

I would love to see Anakin and Chopper team up 🤣🤣It would be hilarious. It's so interesting to see Maul fight at the end of Season 2, he seemed really strong, so I thought it would have been a tough battle. It's like in video games, archers have advantage over melee, but are weak to cavalry, and infantry is good against cavalry. Maul is weak against Kenobi because he's blinded by Revenge. That's sort of how I reason with it

Verowak

Alec Guinness was 57?! Huh, it matches up but he looks so much older thanks to a full head of white hair. I'm flabbergasted

Verowak

Thanks for that, I'll check it out!

Surprised no one actually linked the explanation of the duel from Sam Witwer (Maul's voice actor) who explains how much more depth there was to it even though it was only a few seconds. It's beautiful https://youtu.be/k99C6zXgov0?si=oD--Gcjgi9H1uijj

Believe or not Alec Guinness was just 57 when he filmed the original Stars War. Ewan McGregor was 50 when did Obi-Wan Kenobi. So timeline it match up. The way they explained it is living under Tatooine's suns for as long as he had taken a physical toll on his body.

William Fortner

Chopper Hates Sand! it's coarse & rough and gets everywhere, all in his circuits lol! 🤣 Yeah the Fight was shorter than a lot expected but there was still a lot of detail that went into it that everyone else here has pretty much covered lol, Old Ben Kenobi fights Smarter not Harder and it was showing how much Obi has progressed over the years and how much Maul has regressed as we've seen him slowly descent into insanity this show by only clinging into Revenge, and Revenge led him to destruction.

I can take a wild guess where Kanan was when Ezra heard the recordings, my guess is that he was spending time with a special pilot. Obi-wan was prematurely aged by the harsh environment of Tatooine, with it’s desert environment of being extremely hot and dry causes skin to dry out and look more aged than it would look under more ideal conditions.

The other comments covered it well, but a comment you made Vero "I guess Obi-Wan has gotten stronger," I would say he got wiser with age (as the adage says) hence his ability to bait Maul. I do agree a longer awesome fight would have been great to see, the choreography that went in to this short fight is still stellar, in my opinion.

Yeah the duel was entirely a mind/mental battle more than one of physical feats and lightsaber clashing. There's a couple videos going over basically how the fight was over before it even started with the changing of different form stances. Ben Kenobi by this point is full on Jedi-master, who's perfected the craft and going against an old opponent like Maul who hasn't really learned to change or adapt due to his old age. Maul just assumes he can swing in like he always does and overwhelm Ben especially when he notices him switch to Qui-Gons stance and goes in for the same stun the got Qui-Gon in Ep.1. Of course that was entirely pre-planned and meditated by Ben so he knew to swing downwards ending the fight in seconds. Dave Filoni intentionally wanted the fight to go that way because 1. At this point these are two old geezers fighting so you can't really expect crazy athletic displays like in CW or TPM. 2. We are really close to the start of A New Hope and as you know the fight between Vader and Ben is really clunky, stiff and somewhat awkward so it'd be kind of jarring to see Ben do some flips or speed around all over the place when fighting Maul. 3. Filoni wanted to showcase just the difference in how Ben has grown and developed as a swordsman but more importantly as a Jedi with his wisdom and perspective while Maul has remained stagnant, unwilling to change, and still stuck in his quest for revenge all these years later. 4. Just like how George Lucas used Akira Kurosawa films as influences for his fights during the OT, Filoni decided to translate that same influence here with two masters of their field dueling with the focus more on the battle of the minds and mental rather than the physical duel itself. A lot of people found it really weird when Kenobi the show first came out and we saw how he was basically a shell of his former self right up until the end of the season because this episode here was the last time fans had seen the character and it had fit right in with how Ben was by the time of A New Hope so we all just thought he was still going to have development, but that he would at least still maintain this demeanor we'd see him in here. Also Stephen Stanton was used as the voice for Ben to more closely reflect Sir Alec Guiness and his voice from the movie, not to say that JAJ could've also done but I think it sounds really close to the Old Ben from 4.

This is an absolute masterpiece of an episode. I can tell you that as an avid fencer that this final fight between Maul and Kenobi is how long bouts usually are so that got that right. Kenobi changes his stance from his Form III Soresu opening pose to his stance from A New Hope, finally settling on Form IV Ataru, the form the Qui-Gon uses. Maul tries to use the exact same move that he used to kill Qui-Gon back in Episode I but Kenobi is expected it and quickly ends the fight. This shows how little Maul has grown since Episode I and I am of the opinion that Maul so desperate for some kind of hope and he thinks that killing Kenobi will bring this about. It isn’t depicted in the episode but Kenobi gave Maul a proper funeral. Originally, Maul was supposed to be seeing visions of Satine Kryze and Savage Oppress, but this was cut. Luke is actually two days younger than Ezra, so the animators used the Ezra model for Luke and used archival sound for Aunt Beru. Anakin is the Chosen One, this has been confirmed multiple times by Lucas, so Kenobi is stating his point of view

MrDannySteele

Fun fact: Maul also died in a Legends comic book called Star Wars Star Wars Visionaries, I believe the chapter was called Old Wounds. In that version him and Kenobi faced off but Owen Lars was the one that dealt the killing blow by shooting Maul. Loved the callback to that. And yeah by this time Kenobi is far above Maul and closer to Vader's level. I think Maul alluded to knowing about Vader and not being strong enough to take him on in the Season 2 finale, Twilight of The Apprentice. Love how Kenobi used Qui Gon's stance to lure Maul in. Maul literally used the same move that he killed Qui Gon with on Kenobi but he was able to perfectly counter it by cutting down the middle instead of bisecting him in half. It's such a quick moment, but impactful, he wasn't gonna let Maul get anywhere near Luke. But also he had compassion and pitied Maul in his final moments. This is one of the best episodes in Rebels in my opinion.
