Saw (2004) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Holy jeepers!!

Oh boy was this movie fantastic, plus... I always like seeing Cary Elwes!

I love a movie with twists and turns, and this did not disappoint. I'm hoping the rest of the franchise is like this, though I find it hard to believe that so many movies will be as unexpecting and with a twist.

They've made 10 movies in the past 20 years basically, which is really surprising and amazing if you think about it.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I couldn't do this without you 🥰

Saw (2004) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

I have heard that at some point it basically becomes all about the gore, which definitely wouldn't be my cup of tea. But I have heard that there are a lot of good Saw movies!

Verowak

I Finally got to see your full reaction to this. Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Having said this, Please continue with these. There’s more to Jigsaw, (John Kramer) as these movies proceed.

Joe M

Ugh I cannot stomach these movies. Made it through the first one, walked out of the theater for the second. I don’t do torture 😖

Bruce Wesley

I feel like I remember hearing people talk about Insidious, I just can't remember if it's good things or bad things. Since they made more, I assume the first one must have been well received. I'm definitely interested in seeing what else Whannell has written, to see if he keeps making hits! At some point I do want to watch the Fast and the Furious franchise (the main films, I don't think I would do the spinoffs like Hobbs and Shaw

Verowak

Ok so the director of this film, James Wan, didn’t direct any of the future Saw films, but Leigh Whannell returned to write Saw 2 and 3. Whannell and Wan also teamed up on a few future films tho, those being Dead Silence, Insidious, and Insidious 2 (can’t tell you about any of those tho as I haven’t seen them). Leigh Whannell then made his directorial debut with Insidious 3 (also haven’t seen), and went on to write and direct Upgrade and The Invisible Man, both of which I recommend. I’m also a big fan of James Wan’s Malignant, and Furious 7 (but obviously you’d need to watch the first 6 before that lol). As for just the Saw franchise, I haven’t seen any of the sequels but they made one per year from 2004-2010, so I don’t expect much. People seem to like Saw 2 well enough tho, and I heard the recent Saw X was a return to form for the series.

It isn't just about the traps. There's a continuous story throughout the series. I think it's a strong franchise almost all the way through, with maybe 2 very late exceptions. You should absolutely continue with it. Lots of twists and turns, and unexpected endings.

James MacDonald

It gets bad, in terms of the gore.

David Crabtree

"The Haunting of Hill House" is very rewarding. Most people I know came for the scares and stayed for the incredibly moving and beautiful story...😊

If Saw becomes more about the traps, I'll definitely be less interested. Though it makes sense that the franchise couldn't rely on the thriller/twist aspect for that long 😅 I didn't know James Wan did all of those, but it's great to see it happen though! I love small budget independent movies paving the way to someone's career in the industry since it's really not easy to do! I currently have a few TV series that I absolutely want to watch, but I'll try my best to get to "The Haunting of Hill House" next year!! The chambers dramas are definitely high on my list. I keep learning about new movies that I want to see, there's just not enough time in a week to do them all 😭

Verowak

I've seen so many people mention "The Haunting of Hill House" and I'm getting more and more curious about it lol

Verowak

I didn't know Saw was that kind of franchise

Verowak

I'm a big horror fan, but never got into the torture porn stuff like the Saw films.

David Crabtree

Ahh, you get to see Kevin from Home Alone all grown up. There is a theory out there about that. It makes some sense. Like most conspiracy theories, they go too far. It is funny to think about it though.

Daniel Looney

I've never watched "The Haunting of Hill House" but I watched two episodes of Mike Flanagan's more recent, "The Fall of the House of Usher". I stopped watching after one scene that creeped me out enough to make me shiver. If Vero were to watch "The Haunting of Hill House", I'd be interested. Or maybe it'll appear in a poll. I was a fan of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" (1978?) which is a lot of nostalgic fun, and I also like the 2004 remake which is faster paced and has some familiar faces from other franchises.

ButtercupsTrueLove

That was an interesting re-watch, glad you liked it...🙂 I haven't seen this film for such a long time, but it still holds up. It is a dark, clever and nasty thriller, a perfect example for how to make the most of a very small budget. No wonder this launched the career of James Wan, who went on to do such different movies as "The Conjuring", "Fast And Furious 7" or "Aquaman". I vaguely remember watching part 2, but the subsequent movies rapidly descended into torture porn (where it is all about the nasty traps and nothing else) and I lost interest. I don't know the quality of the latest installment, but I read very mixed reviews. For great a chamber drama (as we call them in Germany 😅) I still highly recommend "Buried" with Ryan Reynolds or "Phone Booth" with a young Colin Farell. A great mixture between horror and chamber drama are "Cube", "Escape Room", "[REC]" or "The Platform". If you really want to dig more into the Horror genre, I very highly recommend "The Haunting of Hill House", a ten episodes mini series telling the best haunted house story ever told in movie or tv. 👌✨😱 Examples for great thrillers - the first ones that come to my mind are "Seven" (but you've already seen that 🤩), "Shutter Island", "Memento", "The Silence of the Lambs" or "The Usual Suspects". As always I'm looking forward to your next reaction...😀🙋🏻‍♂️ EDIT: An absolute must see in the horror genre are "A Quiet Place", both parts 1 and 2. They are directed and co-written by John Krasinski, who also starrs in it, along side his wife Emily Blunt...🤩
