The Pacific - Part One * FULL LENGTH REACTION

It's time to finally dive into this series, and it will be quite the experience it seems.

It does have a very different feel to Band of Brothers in the sense that in the first episode, they are already on Guadalcanal fighting, whereas Band of Brothers had some introduction and training for the first episode. We got to see the characters interact with each other a lot more.

That's my initial assessment of the series, but it does feel very different to Band of Brothers. I'm not saying it's a good or a bad thing, but it will help the series have it's own tone that shouldn't be likened to Band of Brothers.

We're already starting with some brutality in the first episode, so at least I know what kind of stuff to expect to see in future episodes.

I'm also learning way more about the timeline of events involving Japan in world war 2, which I will 100% read up on only after I finish this series.

This will be brutal.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

I have to confess that the Pacific didn't gel with me as much as Band of Brothers did. Both shows are excellent, but I really felt the absence of Winters and Nixon, or characters in that vein.

It just goes to show that everyone has different knowledge and experiences! It makes sense that you know more about the Pacific though since you have family in the Marines. I have no family in any army division, and history was not very captivating in school, I much preferred math and science so my knowledge is very limited. I'll learn more in the coming years though!!

Yeah I would watch Pearl Harbour knowing it's not very accurate haha. I've seen Tora! Tora! Tora! (Only full length is available and on Patreon), but I don't remember if dates were given (if so, I definitely don't remember them 😞)

John Coltrane is a favorite of yours? I am a Grover Washington Jr. fan. What is your favorite album of Coltrane?

Yeah the timing is different. BoBs unit was new and started training in 1942 and was part of the buildup specifically for dday. Prior to normandy allies invaded africa in 42 to drive out rommel, then siciliy and italy in 43 before invading france. So Bob is almost literally the last year of the war with the previous 3 years being skipped over. This episode began in December of 41 but the Guadalcanal invasion wasn't until early August 42, a few days goes by befor the naval battle you saw then several more days go by before the alligator creek battle. I think around 10 to 14 days has passed since the landings. You mentioned pearl harbor. For micheal bay movie it's ok but for historical perspective around pearl harbor I would highly recommend tora tora tora followed by probabaly midway. The 2019 version I think will provide better perspective although the 1976 version is still great and honestly I like it a shade more. Midway was a huge naval battle prior to Guadalcanal in June of 42 so could throw that in whenever you have time and not worry about spoilers.

I was the opposite growing up. I knew a lot about the Pacific theater and the battles against the Japanese, but not a lot about the European theater. That happens when you have family members in the Navy I guess!

Who shat in your cereal buddy? Clearly Vero doesn't mean who wins or when the war ends!

Why? There are no spoilers that can be given on stuff like this. It happened Summer 1942 to the Fall of 1945 on this series. If you do not know what happened, the fault lies in one of 2 places. 1. You, for not knowing history. Or 2. Your parents/grandparents/ school district failed you. They Hollywood it up, same Band of Brothers. But worried about spoilers? Really? On D-Day in Band of Brothers it ends with Nazi Germany surrender. That is not a spoiler. You should know what is going to happen at least on the broad stroke level.
