iOS app memberships and Patreon shop
Added 2024-08-12 15:55:14 +0000 UTCIn November 2024, Patreon memberships purchased through Apple's app store will cost way more for you. Same with anything purchased in the Patreon shop via the iOS app. In order to stay on the app store, Patreon has to switch to Apple's in-app purchasing which means... an extra 30% will be charged. It will not impact existing members, only new memberships through the iOS app starting in November 2024.
For example:
A $10 tier on Patreon will be $14.50 on the iOS app
There is an option where I can take the 30% hit, which if I was a millionaire I would do (but then I could just have everything free on Patreon instead π ). So until I become I millionaire, the option of increasing the prices by 30% for the iOS app is the one I'm going with.
That being said, I am of course encouraging everyone to not purchase a membership or anything in the shop via the iOS app. I'll be updating all my tiers to let everyone know of the cost increase via the iOS app and to not pay with this method. Think of it this way... instead of paying through iOS, you could instead pay for the membership via browser/android AND buy yourself some cookies!

Yes, but previously it wasn't the case for the Patreon app via Apple, so this is to let people know of the changes that will take effect starting in November. So for those who are using the iOS app should be aware of the incoming price hike

It is everything that you sign up for through Apple that has recurring charges: Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc; food delivery services like Blue Planet and Daily Harvest; phone apps with charges; video games; etc. Apple takes a big chunk out of everybody.
