Starship Troopers (1997) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Do you want to know more?

I can't believe I completely forgot I played a Starship Troopers game πŸ˜…

A fantastic, very great dive into this futuristic world. I love the scale of the movie, it's so impressive.

Also a huge bonus that we got to see a scene from two different angles/perspectives!! I'm a sucker for that kind of thing 😁🀩

I don't know if there is a sci-fi movie that I will completely dislike. Moonfall was by no means an amazing movie, but the visuals were absolutely stunning, so it gets a pass in my books 😊

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I couldn't do this without you πŸ₯°

Hahaha, I'm purposely too harsh on the critics. This is a great movie. I feel you have to do convoluted stuff to begin to dislike this movie. No movie is for everyone but they gotta look in a mirror to figure out why this movie bugs them so much. There I was being harsh again, lol.

I did not feel inadequate at all watching this film, it's very hard for me to understand that perspective. It's a society that I would never want to live in 🀣 I have no idea how people would take this film seriously, and I guess since people do... it explains why it wasn't well received by many. This is actually the first time that I hear people being upset and feeling inadequate because of a movie. It's a very bizarre world we live in, and I will never understand the way a lot of people think and feel like they are personally attacked by a movie/story/tv series/art. It really boggles my mind.

I 100% did not πŸ˜‚I never notice outfit details in movies lol

I just finished watching the YT version. Shall I continue with comments? πŸ˜€ The film makes some of the audience members feel inadequate, Intentionally makes them feel inadequate about, - not being beautiful enough, - not athletic enough, - not passionate enough about anything, - can't even handle guns competently, - can't take any lashes - having no ambition, - having no comprehension of being part of society, - not being able to pilot a space craft, - not having any good grades, - not living in an organized, planned and controlled society, - not having a national enemy of bugs - not having a holy mission of exterminating bugs - not having all aspects of society and education directed against bugs Wait, wait, hold on. Is there really something wrong with us or is there something wrong with the society depicted in the film? But we see heroes in the film. We see young people finding purpose. What is their purpose!? To kill bugs! We get you, sir! Hold on, hold on... how perfect is that society really? Wait, do we have to think about this? But don't we check our brains at the door? You're saying we have to use our brains? What kind of movie is this, where we have to use self-reflection? We have to look at our own circumstances and at our own biases? And why do we feel inadequate?

Mannygogou

I think most audiences didn't get the "campy" nature of the film. In general the audience will take a movie seriously and they won't get it that they're being made fun of. The "ads" with "Do you want to know more?" are obviously military propaganda and not to be taken at face value but audiences want to be go-go military (gung-ho) but the movie is making fun of that kind of mindless military support. Remember we were watching school teachers maniacally and gleefully encouraging children to stamp on bugs (no bugs were harmed in the making of this film) and remember that scene when they were handing out ammo to kids like it was candy? You're supposed to think there's something wrong - but what if audiences didn't think anything was wrong? Audiences like to leave their brain at the door, they hang their brain on a hanger and get a stub to pick up their brain later. The casting - it was explained that they selected "beautiful" young adults and they showed a powerful military and this future society, this "perfect" world... except that they're only good for one thing and that's killing bugs. Let's explain this properly, it doesn't matter how perfect your society appears to be when you're only good at killing bugs. This is the message of the film. But audiences were actually offended by the beautiful cast. Not realizing the YA (Young Adult) cast is from out of their own dreams. "This is you. This is how superficial you are." Hey I enjoyed the film, all of it. From the superhuman tricks in the opening game to the smart helmets to the insanity of being indoctrinated as infantry canon fodder. You can still live according to a moral code while also understanding the ineptitude of society, not the other side of society but your own side.

Mannygogou

Did you notice that the helmets and vests were reused for the Alliance troops in "Firefly"?

It's definitely much better if people can treat the book/original material and the movie separately. It's very difficult to make a true adaptation and since it's all subjective, a different director would have made different changes too lol

Verowak

Less than 3% of the population has ever read the book. Let alone the critics etc. It is a fun "B" movie. Nothing more or less.

Daniel Looney

Audience dissatisfaction might be from SF fans who loved the Heinlein book (from which little is taken beyond the title) reacting negatively to the different story, the "romances" and the fascist tone. Critics were less familiar with the novel, and understood the "campy" satire of fascism. Some of the camp nature of the film using so many actors who were, at best, TV soap opera performers.

Cliff Adams

Available on US Netflix, don't know about in other countries
