Sam Rockwell Poll!!

I loved him in Galaxy Quest and The Green Mile, and have had a lot of his movies suggested. I also felt like seeing what else he can do, so here is a bunch of his movies for you to vote on!

I'm not sure how big of a role he plays in these movies, but I went with movies made after Galaxy Quest & The Green Mile in hopes that he has a bigger role than the movies he made prior to those two.

Reminder that you can vote for more than one movie in this poll!

The poll will be ending on July 18th at 11am EDT/3pm UTC.

I'm watching you guys... there better not be a tie again 🤣

FYI, I consulted my audio books and found that I have audio books that were a remastering of the original BBC broadcast. What they did was take the original broadcast and filled in material that was written after the broadcast and made a complete series. So there are two audio books one is the Tertiary phase and the other is the secondary phase. I think there's only two. Douglas Adams does some of the voices himself.

Scott Howard

Yes, I also do not remember where I heard them. It must have been US Public Radio. Also I watched the BBC TV series and I thought "they didn't look as I imagined!" I might've read the book because of that. LoL why is it all a jumble? haha

Mannygogou

Each poll will just have me watching 2-5 movies 🤣

Verowak

Yes, the radio version was great. It was iconic, if I understand correctly, I think it’s what started the books. I’ve listened to all of them, however, I can’t remember where I got them.

Scott Howard

I'm not sure I've seen this movie version of Hitchhiker's Guide, probably. The one I remember liking was the audio one with episodes. (Edit) I think it must be the original BBC radio version "with original cast." There are supposed to be releases with bad pitch (too high), and mislabeled versions - some confusion - but I just remember the iconic narrator voice which "must be the original cast(?)"

Mannygogou

Jojo might be better as a private watch. It took me a couple of viewings, and I know at least one Reactor that didn’t like it on first watch. It’s very dense and the subject is not immediately‘enjoyable’. I’d put near the top of my list of best movies of the past 5 years.

curious cat

I think watch a triple feature, Winner of the poll, Moon, And Charlie's Angels, hahaha 😆

Mannygogou

Jojo Rabbit is great but... Sam Rockwell isn't the main character, he's behind 4 other leading actors in it, I think I counted right. And it's a Sam Rockwell poll. He won best supporting role in a different movie, Three Billboards. I also tried looking up what is his favorite role (tried). IMDB Top10 his Best Acting Performances - #1 is Moon And finally his 5 favorite movies... one of them is Back to the Future 😊

Mannygogou

He was really good in it and it's a fun movie. Lots of interesting side characters including the dad from Back to the Future, Crispin Glover.

Mannygogou

Moon is more of a Sam Rockwell movie. In most other movies he's 2nd billing or 3rd billing... I can't really confirm, it's hard to confirm the other titles... but I believe his leading role is in Moon.

Mannygogou

Jojo Rabbit is great imo.. if you don't like it I'd recommend trying just one more film of his called 'Hunt For The Wilderpeople' starring Sam Neil and the kid from Deadpool 2. It's such nice little film. (That's if you haven't seen it of course)

jim Howe

Agreed

JAKH

For me is "Three Billboards..." the best McDonagh, simply because it is so unusual for him. The story is great and Frances McDormand, Peter Dinklage and Sam Rockwell... holy sh.. were they good in this movie. 😱😊 Same goes for Scarlet Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Taika Waititi and everyone else in "Jojo Rabbit" - special shout out to the wonderful child actors...🤩 And "Moon" - I'm always a fan of a good one-man-show and this was certainly one of the best I've seen. 🙂👍

silverarrow06

Please don't judge a movie before you've seen it. 🥺 I can see why you didn't like his takes on "Thor", but in general his humor is friendly, human, very heartwarming, free of cynism and hate, if a bit childish and silly. Most important, he has a big heart for his protagonists. 🙂

silverarrow06

"Bright" and "Alien Nation" (1988) are kindred film spirits.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Yup, that's why (2001) is written right next to the movie

Verowak

The only one on that list that I would want to watch again is "Heist". Make sure that people realize that this is the 2001 "Heist" and not the completely unrelated 2015 "Heist"

JAKH

A good movie with Margaret Cho is "Bright" (2017)

JAKH

I know Jojo Rabbit is a Taika Watiti film, so I'm a bit worried/unsure if I'll like it. I know a lot of people say it's a great movie, so if I end up not liking it, I probably won't try any Taika Watiti movies anymore 🤣

Verowak

I've heard of Margaret Cho before but don't think I've seen her in anything (I just checked, she's in Face/Off so technically I've seen her lol) That was super interesting, thank you for sharing! She seems like a great person

Verowak

Personally I’m not a huge fan of Jojo Rabbit, and Three Billboards is my least favourite Martin McDonagh film lol. Moon I remember being great, and I haven’t seen it in years, so I’m hoping that wins. Assassination of Jesse James would be great too.

Razor Bikini

I just checked and yeah he was!

Verowak

I'll definitely have to read the books after watching the movie. I've heard so many great things about the movie and the books. I've had so many people mention Moon so I'm looking forward to that one either soon or eventually 😁

Verowak

I've never heard of that one :(

Verowak

Sam, Margaret Cho, and Aisha Tyler (Lana on "Archer" animated sitcom) were high school classmates and are still friends today. Margaret tells about her early days as part of a comedy duo with Sam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBVc11t2Ao8&t=295s

ButtercupsTrueLove

He's also in Charlie's Angels right?

Mannygogou

Would have used it for my marbles win but thought Vero had already reacted to it.

curious cat

My top three of these would be: 1. Jojo Rabbit 2. Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri 3. Moon 🤩

silverarrow06

Please give your vote to "Jojo Rabbit", the best of the listed movies here and that says something, because they're all really good. But please please "Jojo Rabbit"! It hits straight into your heart and is such a heartwrenching statement against any form of hate. It's not only brilliant, it is also very important! 😍🥹🙏🙏

silverarrow06

The only two movies I know about up there is Moon and Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Moon is a great movie, can't go wrong on that. The problem with Hitchhikers Guide is that I'm a big fan of the books and no movie adaptation I've tried to watch has even come close to the books and don't seem, to me, to understand the heart of that material. So I just get annoyed when I see them. Douglas Adams was someone I completely disagreed with on everything but I loved his books. So I disagreed with everything he was trying to say, but I loved the way he said it.

Scott Howard

Some good movies on this list. I'm excited. Though I would've liked to see The Best of Enemies too.

SaRahRahWA

Good stuff.

jim Howe

Moon is a great film.

Ashley

I've had quite a lot of people mention it, which I had never heard of before and I haven't looked anything up for it!

Verowak

That's exactly what I imagine after seeing him in Galaxy Quest and The Green Mile, his energy and what he brings to the characters will always be great to watch

Verowak

Delighted to see 'Moon' on a poll. Hope it wins!

jim Howe

Top Poll Miss Verowak Sam is always good even in bad films
