Twister (1996) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Cow! Another cow!! Actually I think that was the same one.

If you have any experience with tornadoes, I would love know how this movie made you feel!

I'm not a thrill seeker by any means, so I would be driving the complete opposite direction of a tornado 🤣

A fantastic movie that shows us the importance of storm chasers. I love movies that have helped shaped so many people.

Also, what a joy to see Cary Elwes!! He looks so different from The Princess Bride and Men in Tights. It's not that many years later but his boyish/youthful good looks have matured. I loved hearing him not have an English accent, it was so strange 😁

Helen Hunt is just so naturally great to see on screen. She just gets into the role so well! And Bill Paxton too, though his character seems very similar to his Apollo 13 one in a way.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much everyone for your support, I couldn't do this without you 🥰

That was amazing! And yeah, it almost looks like CGI 😅 It's really mind blowing to see the power of nature. When we have high speed wind here and some trees get uprooted, I'm always amazed since trees are so strong! I know physics and leverage plays a part, but still!

Verowak

Yeah, apparently if on the road, a ditch is considered better than a bridge. Because at least a ditch is also somewhat below the surface. Still not a great option though.

Here's amazing 4K drone footage of a tornado in Iowa last month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEFGKMWYD-E It's so surreal to see it so up close and at such high resolution that it almost looks like CGI!

Brian

Physically? No.. but emotionally?? No, nothing 🙏😄

That was a good read, thank you! It would have been fun goign storm chasing before filming, to see how everything is

Verowak

That must have been terrifying! I hope there wasn't much damage 🤣

Verowak

Bridges and large hangars never seemed like good shelter locations for me. But I guess if that is the only thing nearby, meaning it's that or nothing... then perhaps that would be better 😂

Verowak

The pepsi sponsorship was strong with this one 😅

Verowak

Let me know if you enjoyed Twisters! It feels like it'll be hard to get a lower imdb score than the original (despite that number being completely wrong!)

Verowak

I'm wanting to watch more and more disaster movies. Even if some of them are far-fetched and unrealistic, it's still great to see!

Verowak

That would have been an amazing first imax experience! Here I know there are certain kinds of natural disasters that insurance just doesn't cover. I feel like living in a natural disaster zone would have horrible insurance premiums 😨

Verowak

Closest I came was a handful of leaves blowing around in a circle in my cul-de-sac here in Ireland. 😅

I found an article from NOAA in 2016 that I thought was pretty interesting. https://www.noaa.gov/stories/noaa-tornado-scientists-inspired-twister-creators-20-years-ago In particular...that there was a certain reference to Wizard of Oz with the NOAA researchers. Just under a different name. :)

When the 1999 F5 went through Moore, Del City (my hometown), Midwest City. It went 1.5 miles away from my parents house. (I was in the Army at the time). My best friend Mikes house was only one standing on his street. Everything else levelled to the foundation 1 mile to East to Tinker AFB.. It hit car dealership in Midwest City. There where several cars no parts wherever found. Just sucked up, dropped in the middle of lake miles away etc No one knows that happened to them. Just gone like they never existed. But storms that big are very rare. And Rare to hit a populated area as well. No one really gives a crap if a twister knocks down a fence in the middle of the great plains. Oh, and cows are not dumb. They freaking run away and almost never harmed by a tornados.

As someone who grew up in OKC. Took Metrology in College and been a storm chaser for extra credit. And seen 50+ of them in my life before. You come close to them from the back. You do not stay in front. That is stupid and everyone knows the way the storms go. In OK it is always SE hdg NW or MW heading SE. You just drive around it and film from the backside. OK is a plain state. No mountains or forest to get in the way, at least OKC and west. Almost everything they say science wise in the movie is wrong. Most tornados are small and relatively harmless if you seek shelter. Every few years there is a HUGE ONE with 300+ mile winds, levels houses to the foundation in a mile wide swath. They are called F5's. F1 or F2's go get your camera. Want to see a tornado in real life? Drive I35 from Dallas to Witichia KS every day in April, May, June in the afternoon. You will see one. Yes, everything is covered by insurance. It falls under the "Acts of God" clause. Well, your house. For a car depends on if you have full coverage or not. Either way for both, still have to pay the deductible before insurance kicks in. Weird thing though, you have to pay for earthquake insurance separate and flood insurance is separate as well. Tornados are covered on basic homeowners insurance.

Daniel Looney

A couple of safety tips that are ... uh ... changed since this documentary. ;) Don't seek shelter under a bridge. It basically provides no protection, and can act as a wind tunnel. So that debris just gonna go faster. And...push you out from under the bridge. A large hangar, like in the film, or a gymnasium, or also not good places for shelter because they are typically not sturdy enough to withstand the strong winds. The barn with all those sharp objects was probably not a great place to go either, but...if that's your only option, what are you gonna do? lol

OrangeLion

Loudest movie I have ever seen. And how many (then new) Pepsi logos can show up, not only on cans but also every Doppler screen of every twister?

Cliff Adams

Not sure when I’ll get to watch this with you but I definitely will, I love this movie. 6.5 is a shockingly low rating, not really sure why it’s not higher. I’ll be heading to the cinema next week to watch Twisters in the hope it’s not a terrible remake cash grab.

James Hadden

Love this movie. Well, prone to liking disaster movies, and this one is a great one. Glad you liked Mark Mancina's work. His score on this one is one I often return to.

Bemwen

First movie i saw in imax theater. I'm always leary of the late sequals/remakes too, some movies I feel are iconic and just shouldn't be touched. When you live in places like that you get disaster insurance, hurricanes, tornadoes wildfires. Costs more but kinda gotta have it.
