The Acolyte 1x05 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

I've realized that this series is a suspense/thriller, what with all the secrecy and things we find out throughout the series!

It didn't dawn on me until literally 2 minutes ago as I started typing this up 🤣

I think one issue that "The Acolyte" has, is making its place in a world that doesn't usually have this type of story. Sure in all the movies we find out things as we watch, but there's another theme about hope right alongside it, which I feel like this series doesn't have. It's not a bad thing, it's just harder to realize that it's different from the norm.

My issue with the series is the exposition. I've spent a decent amount of time trying to put into words what rubs me the wrong way about this series, and this youtube video that came out a few days ago helps explain: https://youtu.be/rywJKFunIGM?si=Ln-rF3TJadEuSkFT

To me, "The Acolyte" started off with bad exposition, which really put me off. It feels like they are doing better as the series goes on, but it still feels clunky and more of them telling us things instead of showing them to us.

Aside from that, the overall story has me intrigued, and I am now rooting for the Sith. I may be showing my true colours, but as you all know, I've never really been a huge fan of the Jedi, so it's probably not surprising😅

I also have to stop trying to tie in this series with anything prequel related. I keep trying to figure out how it fits in, but it's probable that we won't have important characters from the prequels show up at all. That's on me, because I love connecting things, but there may not be a connection at all 😅

The more I think of it, it feels like the Sith may not be the Master, and instead the Apprentice, but hopefully that's something we find out later.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Thank you for the video!! I love seeing things like that 🤩 I didn't mention it, but the fight scenes were the best in the series so far for me! They were really nice to watch. I love that they are introducing something that we haven't seen in the movies/tv series yet! The lightsabers shorting out temporarily seems very good against a Jedi! I'm really looking forward to more Qimir!!

I haven't seen Jaws, it's part of my August lineup. Originally I was going to do it in July, but I can't really get an editor, so I can't increase my movie reactions per week yet so it's being pushed to August. Independence Day is for July 4th since I knew that's around when it takes place lol

I really enjoyed this episode. The fight scenes were really really good. There's a behind the scenes video of Manny Jacinto going ham on all these Jedi lol: https://x.com/camandfilm/status/1806455529692332228?t=IQkXKjg8xaoYDlgIkaVTvg&s=19 Fun fact: Qimir's Helmet and Gauntlet are made of Cortosis. It's a rare mineral that can temporarily absorb the heat of and short out lightsabers, this process makes it more brittle than the metal for Mandalorian Armor for example, it's an interesting trade off. Judging by the lines in his helmet I think he reforged his helmet a few times. I admit that I was kinda sad seeing Jecki die. She did so well too 🥲

Off topic: In one of your previous movie reactions you asked about "July" or "summer" themed movie recommendations. One that I don't see on your spreadsheet of reactions is Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic "Jaws" with iconic music by John Williams and a number of quotes in common use in pop culture, which is set around the July 4th holiday. I haven't seen you make any references to if you've seen it off the channel, but it would be a good choice to include in any polls if you haven't. Another option is the 1973 classic "Day of the Jackal" which is set around Bastille Day July 14th, and would also be extra appropriate for a summer where the Olympics are in Paris.

Inconsistency in power levels is present everywhere 🤣 At least the Jedi are consistent in their "don't attack an unarmed opponent". There are some Jedi who don't always follow that, but the vast majority do. Just because I think it's stupid, doesn't mean it's bad lol I'm just glad they are consistent even if I get annoyed by it 😂 And yes, the Jedi are definitely a bunch of clowns. Always have been 😁

I really enjoyed this episode. I have to excuse the obvious inconsistency of everyone’s skills during combat otherwise I’d never watch a single action movie. This isn’t a criticism aimed at the show but the whole Jedi “we don’t attack an unarmed opponent” thing is just stoooooopid. This rule is bad enough at a first encounter, but for it to still be a thing after disarming an opponent during combat is utterly ridiculous. I’m done with the Jedi, bunch of clowns.

Oh I forgot to mention the fighting!! Best fight scenes of the series so far, it was actually really good. I'm with you in the force usage in fights. The hand to hand Jedi fighting was so weird, I was trying to think if they ever train without a lightsaber... But 99% of the time it's all hand to hand (Clone Wars had some hand to hand but very little)

Daaaaaang there was a lot of stuff I liked in this episode - especially the choreography. I love when they actually use the force in interesting ways in the fights! Pulling a second person onto the blade was ruthless. And more jedi hand-to-hand fighting please!
