The Sixth Sense (1999) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

**A quick note, there is a 10 ish second section that has no video for me. I guess OBS messed up somehow and I didn't notice until after I finished recording and I didn't want to record a random 10 second section of me to insert into it 🤣

The size of the emotional tidal wave caused by this movie is ridiculous! Bruce Willis can play such a caring person, and Haley Joel Osment is just phenomenal!

Also, Donnie Wahlberg was amazing, and I need to see what else he's done. He was great in Band of Brothers, and for this movie, Vincent was such a different character but he nailed it.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about this movie, and I know a few people who watched it as a kid and got nightmares. I can completely understand why 🤣

The music was very suspenseful, and the jump scares got me dammit... and sometimes it wasn't anything scary, just someone walking across the screen is enough to make me jump!

Thank you everyone for making this tied with "12 Angry Men". Such vastly different movies, but yet both were absolutely amazing. I'm a bit bummed that Haley Joel Osment didn't win the oscar for best supporting actor... but now I have to see Michael Caine in "The Cider House Rules" since he beat both Haley Joel Osment AND Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile).

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

The Sixth Sense (1999) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

That's on my list, as well as the two other movies that go with it afterwards!

Verowak

I'd recommend another M. Night Shyamalan movie "Unbreakable," also starring Bruce Willis in a serious role. I think it's just as good as Sixth Sense.

Joel P

In the video, you asked for suggestions for themes for the monthly poll. I am just tossing a couple out, no expectations whether you use them or not.

JAKH

Usually one movie is from a Patreon poll, so it will depend on what everyone votes/chooses lol

Verowak

I read all the comments on my YT videos. There are a LOT of "To Kill a Mockingbird". Enough that it stands out and I remember it 🤣

Verowak

If you are already planning "Die Hard With a Vengeance", "Independence Day" and "Twister", then you could make it a theme month of Big Boom Action Movies, rounding it out with something like: "Bad Boys" (1995) "True Lies" (1994) "The Last Boy Scout" (1991) "Last Action Hero" (1993) "Under Siege" (1992) "Broken Arrow" (1996) "Commando" (1985) "Raw Deal" (1986) "Dante's Peak" (1997) "Volcano" (1997) "Swordfish" (2001) "Eraser" (1996) "The Rock" (1996) "Speed" (1994) "Daylight" (1996) "Tango & Cash" (1989) "Godzilla" (1998 version) Otherwise, how about a Clint Eastwood or John McTiernan Director themed poll?

JAKH

Hey I finally got to watch your reaction. I had to watch the edited version since it's more accessible. I made sure to tell you to watch it even though you'd heard of the meme "I see dead people" without letting on that it wasn't "the" twist, had to be careful 🙂 I think Cole started listening to the ghosts to ease his mother's suffering, when she was asleep she was having a nightmare and he was saying "You rest easy mother..." I will take care of the ghosts now.

Mannygogou

I haven't heard of most of those quotes 🤣

Verowak

No spoilers, but a warning about your plan to watch "Deadpool": It is part of the FOX X-Men/Wolverine franchise and makes a LOT of references to the other X-Men & Wolverine movies, so if you haven't seen them already, you will miss a lot. I recommend that you watch them in release order first. Whether you watch them for the channel or on your own doesn't matter, just so that you have the background.

JAKH

quotes that you probably have heard in common use, even if you haven't seen the movie it came from, but not necessarily on the AFI list: "May the Force be with you" "I am your father" "Do or do not. There is no try" "It's a trap!" "Danger Will Robinson, danger!" "Go ahead, make my day" "Well, punk, are you feeling lucky?" "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die" "Houston, we have a problem" "Yippee-kai-yay, motherfucker" "Welcome to the party, pal" "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" "Live long and prosper" "Beam me up" "We're going to need a bigger boat" "Soylent Green is [SPOILER WITHHELD]" "Get your stinking hands off me you damn, dirty ape!" "There's no place like home" "And your little dog, too" "Attica! Attica!" "Make him an offer he can't refuse" "Just when I think I'm out, they drag me back in" "There's no crying in baseball!" "Toga! Toga!" "If you build it, they will come" "And don't call me Shirley" "Shaken, not stirred" "Bond, James Bond" "There can be only one" "Adrianne!" "I got two guns, one for each of ya" "I'm your huckleberry" "You're a daisy if you do" "Game over, man, game over" "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure" "Get away from her, you BITCH!" "Have you ever killed anyone?" + "Yeah, but they were all bad" "I married Rambo" "You magnificent bastard, I read your book!" [punch in the face] "Welcome to Earth" "I want the truth!" + "You can't handle the truth" "Klaatu barada nikto" "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" "With great power comes great responsibility"

JAKH

I'm pretty sure he's already done a few. I won't go down the list, as I'm not sure that info would be considered spoiler territory.

Now that everyone knows that M. Night Shyamalan movies always have a twist, he can do one where the twist is that there is no twist, and people will spend the entire movie waiting for a twist that never comes.

JAKH

Him being everywhere did not really bother me, for instance after the stuttering stanely incident, my thinking was the school called cole's psychologist, or when he's with cole in the house, that for me was just the way he worked. What I thought a dead give away, was when Malcolm was sitting with cole's mom in the living room not speaking a word. That was really unnatural. The only thing that they did to throw you off was when she left the room she looked back at Malcolm. So you're led to believe that she sees him there. BTW you might want to do a search through the comments on 12 Angry men on YT and see how many times people recommended 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.

Scott Howard

I will say, I've never payed attention to the story and what was happening in movies until I started this channel. So had I watched this movie like 10 years ago... I wouldn't have picked up on it until later. It's very weird to look at movies so differently now, but I love it! I pick up on so many more things and notice patterns 😁 I love how they used red! So brilliant.. it stands out but you don't really get the whole picture until the end, then when you rewatch it you can see just how clever they were. I want to try filming out of sequence one day, to see how it is. It feels like the actors have to be on their A game to keep the character consistent throughout the whole thing. But Haley Joel Osment was just so incredible in this, he was absolutely perfect for the role

Verowak

Haha thanks for sharing, that was great!!! Such a small world sometimes 😁

Verowak

The sad reality of knowing a movie has a twist :( I try my best to avoid that knowledge now so I can be surprised, but there are a lot of movies that I just know have a twist because of pop culture. I definitely would not have gotten the twist if I had seen it in theatres, or even like 10-15 years ago. I was too into the story to think "this is a movie trope, so it doesn't have to make sense", it felt more like I was watching something happen in real life, so him being everywhere was weird 😅 I don't like the "lifetime appreciation" wins, it's just such a disappointment for the other actors who were phenomenal since not every role in a movie can be award worthy :(

Verowak

I'm very surprised no one said "that's not the twist..."!! I'm 100% sure if I had watched this when I was younger, I would not have gotten the twist until that point.

Verowak

The downside of knowing there is a twist... I doubt everything and think more on what is going on 😞

Verowak

🤣It won't always result in both being watched. As long as you guys don't start hving 3 or more tied 😨

Verowak

Even though were able to anticipate the movie's ending, I am glad you were still able to appreciate how great this movie is. I feel like there's a good chance if you'd seen it when it was in theaters, that the ending would've surprised you completely like it surprised most people. At that point, Shyamalan was basically an unknown, and he certainly wasn't known as the "twist guy." Also, the Sixth Sense had such an impact on pop culture that it helped prime the movie-going public at large to always be looking for twists from that point forward. As far as some of the weird things in the story (like Malcolm always showing up to interact with Cole), I think at the time most people just chalked it up to movie tropes. It's kind of like how whenever a crime happens in a TV show, the trial usually magically happens within a few weeks, even though in real life the trial can be delayed for years. Or if there is a TV show about a teacher (Head of the Class, Welcome Back Kotter) we only ever see him interact with one set of students, but we don't question it, because we understand that they comprise the show's cast. And so for Sixth Sense, it made "movie sense" that Malcolm never interacted with other patients and was always there for Cole. You're right about how amazing Haley Joel Osment's performance was. I admit that I never saw "The Cider House Rules." But my impression at the time was that Michael Caine's win was one of those "lifetime appreciation" type of wins, rather than him being particularly amazing in that one movie. I think it's not an exaggeration to say that after all these years, Osment's performance in The Sixth Sense has attained iconic status in the cultural zeitgeist, whereas "The Cider House Rules" has been largely forgotten. Bruce Willis was indeed known for comedy before he did "Die Hard." However, that was mostly due to the TV show he starred in (alongside Cybil Shepard) - MOONLIGHTING. It was really popular at the time, and one of those shows that had that "will they, won't they" dynamic. It also regularly broke the fourth wall. Willis was so associated with his Moonlighting persona that when Die Hard came out, people were really perplexed he'd been cast as an action lead (albeit a wisecracking one).

Thanks for sharing your emotional reaction with us. M. Night Shyamalan was a guest on The Tonight Show a few years ago and shared a behind the scenes story that occurred during "The Sixth Sense" shoot. It has a tie-in with The Tonight Show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_bySp0d_fI&t=192s

This was a brilliant demonstration on how they can tell you something right up front (he’s dead) and then lead you away from believing it for the entire movie until the very end. I will say that you got it sooner than most people do because I think you started to realize it when Cole and Malcolm were saying goodbye, I can tell you that when I first watched the movie I was totally suckered. I didn’t get it , and it took me a minute to understand what was going on. I don’t think I really got it until they started to show the flashback scenes. As I was watching the reaction,, I kept thinking oh this is going to tip her off. She’s going to get it now. You were definitely picking up on the red theme .😀 This also shows how you can still really enjoy a movie even if you don’t agree with the underlying premise. I know a lot of people who can’t do that, but this really is a brilliant masterpiece of a movie. everybody in it was just great, especially Haley Joel Osmet. I think you said that this was shot in sequence which definitely makes it different than 12 angry men, which was definitely not filmed in sequence. Every time they set up the camera in a particular place in the room all the scenes for that camera angle had to be filmed before they moved the camera again, which is part of the reason it was so amazing that they made it look as though it just all happened naturally. Really great reaction

Scott Howard

When you said on Discord you knew the “I see dead people” twist I’m glad no-one said that’s not the twist. I’ve seen this maybe half a dozen times and I still tear up at numerous points. It’s such a great movie and Haley Joel Osment is amazing. I was my usual oblivious self when I watched this the first time, I think it was the wedding ring moment when I finally caught on. The only good aspect is that twists work really well on me. If you want some more serious Bruce then you could go for Unbreakable and get another helping of M. Night too.

James Hadden

sweet! I'm glad you enjoyed it - I must... watch... soon... 😄😊 "I'm ready to communicate with you now."

Mannygogou

Oh no. Vero's thanking us for the tie. DON'T ENCOURAGE US, VERO! IT'S NOT WORTH IT! I mean...uh...wait, yeah, no. That's what I mean.

OrangeLion

So the moral of the story is that we should always the votes 😇 I'm glad you enjoyed the movie 😃

Biggsy

First to guess the twist
