The Princess Bride (1987) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Me: More Cary Elwes please!

Movie: As you wish 😀

Well, well, well. What a movie! Overall, I loved the comedy, the action, the romance, the actors!!! What an absolutely amazing way to spend 1h 38minutes of my life 🥰

I'm finding out that SO many movies are based on books, and so far all of them have been great storytelling. It's as if books that sell well have good chances of having a good story 😂

The sword fight at the start was really well done, good job actors!

So many great parts in this one, it's hard to pick a favourite so I'll just say the whole movie was my favourite part 🤩

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Always shocks me when someone of our generation hasn’t seen this. One of those movies that seemingly everyone I know grew up watching. I suppose it doesn’t much matter tho because it holds up no matter what age you are. Interesting that you’ve recently watched both this and When Harry Met Sally. Rob Reiner had a pretty legendary run of classic films in the 80s/90s, made even more impressive by just how different they all are from each other.

Mandy Patinkin also was very good in in the sci-fi police detective movie "Alien Nation" (1988) with James Caan, which spawned a TV show

The “Chatty duelists” scene is absolutely amazing. They trained and rehearsed their butts off and gave us a great performance. What can make that scene even better?? Oh I don’t know, maybe some… Lightsabers?! Look up chatty duelists with lightsabers, you can thank me later.

Billy Dancel

It is just a fun movie that is clean for kids but has adult themes. Memorable characters and catch phrases. It is of course very meme worthy as well.

Daniel Looney

Yup. (To the "watch misery at some point" thing.)

Richard Flores

I love that story about Andre and Arnold 🤣 Such a harmless and yet fun prank!! Also, it's super interesting that he wrote the screenplay for The Princess Bride AND Misery. I haven't seen Misery but know it's Stephen King and that's enough to get an idea for the kind of horror it entails 😀 I'll have to watch misery at some point

Watching this with your son will be amazing! Definitely a great movie to build memories on. His line delivery was really heartfelt, and now it makes it just that much better knowing this :(

Verowak

Let's just hope you don't meet anyone with 6 fingers on their right hand 😁 I need to use that sticker at some point

Verowak

I love that you quote it nearly once a week!! I can see how it could be a very fun line to use in many different situations

I love this movie. On the list of movies I want to watch with my son once he is ready to see it. The scene that gets me every time is when Inigo finally kills Count Rugan and says "I want my father back you son of a bitch". Mandy Patinkin had lost his father to cancer and he has said that he used that motivation to give that line it's gravity and passion. After I learned that, it makes the meaning of the line so much better.

The late William Goldman wrote a book entitled, "Four Screenplays with Essays", which includes "Marathon Man", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "The Princess Bride", and "Misery". The first three screenplays are based on original stories by Goldman while "Misery" is adapted from the novel by Stephen King. His essays include behind the scenes anecdotes of the films, including stories told to him by Andre the Giant and how he invited Arnold Schwarzeneggar to attend a wrestling match in Mexico, then after the match ended he invited Arnold to come up onto the ring with him. The crowd was shouting in Spanish and Andre told Arnold that the crowd wanted him to take off his shirt and perform body-building poses, of which Arnold happily did so. Later, Andre said he had no idea what the crowd was chanting but suckered Arnold into stripping down and posing in the ring.

You know the name badge stickers that say "HELLO my name is" that you wear at holiday parties and reunions? They are red with a big white space so you can write your own name down. Well, you can get ones that are pre-printed to say, "HELLO my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." It's one of my favorite jokes using a movie quote.

Kevin

My favorite line, which I quote nearly once every week is Miracle Max's "Have fun storming the castle!"

Cliff Adams

I'm so glad to have finally watched it!!! With this movie and Men in Tights, I'm certainly a Cary Elwes fan now 😁

Verowak

Yearly rewatches?! That sounds so fun!!

Verowak

It was just so fun, definitely a movie to watch when feeling down

Verowak

This movie seems so ubiquitous that I'm always surprised when someone hasn't seen it! Vero, I'm so glad you've finally joined the in crowd... 😉

Phil Stubblefield

Yay one of my all time favourite movies! When this came out it immediately wound up in our friend group’s rotation of yearly rewatches (along with the likes of Star Wars and Indiana Jones original trilogies).

Laxjedi

Oh, this movie does have a very high re-watch value. Book does, too. (I think it was the 25th? 30th? anniversary edition that had that story about Will ruining a take when Robin's dress catches fire.)
