RUSH (2013) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Thanks to our Marble runner-up, S1lm4r1l for choosing RUSH!!

HANS ZIMMER TIME!!!

Reading the IMDB trivia at the end and seeing that Niki Lauda thought it was super accurate (aside from the portrayal of their rivalry), makes this movie just so much better.

I see myself getting more and more curious about the production aspect of these movies, and the amount of planning needed to film the racing scenes. I am not good at planning so this is so impressive to me.

Lately I've been watching a decent amount of movies with some comedic aspects to them, and it's so nice to watch a way more serious movie.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

RUSH (2013) * FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

The British have a long and rich history in motorsport so yes F1 is pretty big here. To be honest F1 is probably the most globally popular motorsport, it has a huge following in a lot of countries, just not so much in North America, although that is now changing with the popularity of ‘reality tv’ spin in the form of Netflix’s Drive To Survive show (which may be harsh as I’ve never watched it). I’m sad to say the world of motorsport lost Niki following his death in 2019. Ooh, looking forward to Apollo 13 at some point then. I don’t consider the following spoilers, but my favourite aspect of the movie besides the characters is the very ‘real’ space stuff, Armageddon it ain’t.

James Hadden

He seems like he REALLY knew what he was talking about. So lovely to see the contrast between him and Hunt.

Ford vs Ferrari is one that I'm curious to see, so I'll have to watch it at some point. A lot of people that I know that like Formula 1 are all from the UK, is it a big thing there? The no bs part is so nice to hear. So many times people censor themselves, so hearing someone say 100% what they want is a breath of fresh air. I'm glad that he's well liked, despite his bluntness, he seems like a nice person. Gravity wasn't considered quick enough?! That is just insane! I've seen a few videos of the pit stops and it's just insane to see that no.. it's not sped up 😨 Apollo 13.. just you wait, it'll be soon!!!

Daniel Bruhl seems like a dedicated actor, really does a great job with his characters. I definitely would not have noticed the accent if it was Austrian or not, so I'm glad to know this. It makes his performance just that much better. I like the "just bring a carry-on", it fits with the characterization I saw in the movie so well 😂

We were blessed to have Niki Lauda with us in the modern age of Formula 1. It was always fun to watch his more recent interviews and pick his mind for his opinions and observations on the (then) current state of F1.

Excellent choice of movie

This is another movie in my collection so it was great to revisit, again. I really like this one, although I do prefer Le Mans ‘66 (Ford vs Ferrari outside of the uk). The real racing was way before my time as I grew up watching Formula 1 in the late 80’s, but still heard about the Hunt/Lauda rivalry watching through the decades. I’ve had a few spells of dipping out of the sport but always seem to get drawn back in. My best memory of seeing Niki in the sport was in his non-executive role at Mercedes back in 2013. He was still a real straight talker with no obvious bs, which was such a refreshing change from the more corporate sounding interviews you usually got around that time. He was clearly very well respected but also seemed to be very well liked, which was nice to see. I love watching old F1 clips, and as portrayed in the movie, with the lengthy pit stops where they had chance to talk about stuff - a modern F1 pit stop is sometimes completed in under 2 seconds (admittedly with more pit crew, but still astonishing). At one point gravity wasn’t considered quick enough to drop the front and rear jacks so gas rams were used to fire them down and release the car. As much as I like this movie it cannot top my list of favourite Ron Howard movies, it’s just impossible to beat Apollo 13.

Glad you liked the movie and the soundtrack Vero! An Austrian accent is nearly impossible for a German to do convincingly but Bruhl does a great job. When he was cast in the role, Bruhl asked to meet Lauda. Lauda agreed but said "Just bring a carry-on bag, if I don't like you it'll be easier than paying for a whole suitcase." Lauda gave away all his trophies to a garage in Austria in exchange for free car-washes and servicing. Austria has had 9 airlines in its history. Lauda founded 3 of them.
