Reboot/Remake poll!

It's time for another poll!!  This one is for a movie that is a remake or reboot.  I asked YouTube members for suggestions and threw in a couple of my own.  There is a nice variety of genres for this one 😁

As usual, you can vote for as many options as you want, and the voting will end on Feb 23rd at 11am EST/4pmUTC.

I also didn't know all of these were remakes, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Having seen both, I like the 1999 Pierce Brosnan version better. Plus Faye Dunaway is in both, though in different roles.

JAKH

I'm surprised The Thomas Crown Affair didn't make the list. The 1999 film with Pierce Brosnan is a remake of the 1968 Steve McQueen film. It's a wonderful film.

@Razor Bikini I wasn't saying to replace the poll, just to add these to her future considerations list. As to quality: 1) For some the original is better, others the remake is better, and still others both are good, but I left off ones where I think the remake is bad, not just not as good as the original. For example I would recommend the original "La Femme Nikita" (1990) but never the atrocious remake "Point of No Return" or the TV show. Similarly I like the original 1959 "12 Angry Men" but not any of the remakes. 2) Some are deeply embedded in pop culture or art or are often copied whether we individually like them or not, so it is good to know enough to be able to recognize them (like the many copies of "Rashomon", "Seven Samurai"/"Magnificent Seven", or "12 Angry Men" in TV episodes; or the many remakes of "Hell In The Pacific" or "Fort Apache") 3) Which are good or just mediocre is a matter of personal opinion, which is why she asks the group mind rather than just relying on one person's opinion.

Haha yeah you’d need either a 3D TV which I’m not sure they even make anymore, or a VR headset.

Razor Bikini

I definitely don't have the means to do that. I don't even know how one watches 3d movies at home to be honest

Verowak

One other thing to note about Dredd is that it’s the rare movie that is better in 3D, in my opinion. Tho I assume you don’t have the means to watch it in that format lol

Razor Bikini

After making this poll I learned that Robin Williams is in Insomnia, AND it's a Christopher Nolan film!!

Verowak

Dredd was winning early on, Murder on the Orient Express recently overtook it! I do like a murder mystery, but I think Dredd is sci fi, so it's a really interesting choice. One of those on the list were my personal choice for remake (hint: it's a western 🤩)

Verowak

That Star Wars one sounds pretty neat 😏There are some on that list that are already booked for watching this year 😀

Verowak

I think you'd enjoy Insomnia especially coming right off the heels of "Good Will Hunting." Robin Williams is also in Insomnia, in a radically different role. It shows how genuinely talented an actor he was.

Some of these are a bit of a stretch, and some of them are just plain bad and Vero would be better off going with the original. Also surprised you didn’t mention The Departed, Scorsese’s remake of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs.

Razor Bikini

Surprised that Murder on the Orient Express was winning, tho I just tied it up by voting for Dredd. Personally I’m hoping True Grit or The Fly pull ahead, but I wouldn’t be mad about any of these winning.

Razor Bikini

@James Hadden good recommendation, V mentioned that she likes Donald Sutherland

Come on people True Grit. Why? 1. Only movie John Wayne got an Oscar for! 2. The remake which is closer to the book that I am sure Vero will get to reading. 3. True Grit is voting for 2 movies at once. With that, I will end my unhinged Ted talk.
