Firefly Episode 9 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

No longer the hero, the man they call Jayne!

I love continuing this storyline, and it's just crazy to see what they did to River.  I hope we find out more soon!!

Seeing them practice and prep for impersonating the medics was just great 🤣

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Yes! haha it's little things like that that add so much to the world and characters

Verowak

He should definitely wear more red shirts 🤣

Verowak

Also, did you see the part Wash threw ways the same part they needed in the last episode?

Cat Indigo

You do have to admit Jayme does look better in red.

Cat Indigo

So very true 🤣

Verowak

Q. What do you call someone who graduated last in their class at medical school? A. Doctor

I've never noticed a blue sun logo or anything, I'll have to go back and spot those. Definitely a piece of information that I never would have gotten, but it adds a layer when you know about it! Thanks for the info!! It would make sense it's the Blue Sun Corporation that was behind River's torturing

I could not agree more! Mal in "Captain" mode is one of my favourite things in this series

Okay, I took an hour off work b/c I didn't want to wait any longer... 😉 Great reaction, Vero! You were just as angry as I thought you'd be! The two closing scenes are *so* good. First, the conversation through the airlock window. When Mal yells, "You turn on any of my crew, you turn on me!" it's a beautiful illustration of the kind of person he is, the type of leader we'd all follow to the gates of Hell. (And an example of why he should have at least been nominated for an Emmy!) Then, the final lines of dialog between Simon and River are so tender: "No, mei-mei! It's time to wake up." Gets me every time! 😭

First thing: totally understandable that Out of Gas is your favorite episode. Although Episode 10 is great too. Hmmm...and that is what is next for you! As for River, the knife and Jayne: River wasn't really going after Jayne. River was going after Jayne's shirt. An overarching plot line in the Firefly 'Verse is the Blue Sun Corporation. You can see their logo splattered around random objects in the show. Blue Sun is a mega-conglomerate. They make everything from food products (can food, oaty bars, coffee, etc) and apparel. Pretty much everything. The corporation is so big, it is more powerful than the Alliance government. The "Hand's of Blue" has a double-meaning. While they wear blue gloves, the "Hand's of Blue" guys are literally the hands of the Blue Sun Corporation. That is why the "Blue Sun" guys, as keepers of corporate secrets, have no hesitation to kill anybody who might have learned something the Blue Sun Corporation does not want them to know. While not strictly canon, it seem reasonable to assume it was the Blue Sun Corporation that was behind River's "Academy" where she was tortured. Unfortunately much of this story line about an evil corporation was truncated with the cancellation of the series, ironically by an evil corporation. During the "Serenity" pilot, the "Cry Baby" that allowed the escape from the Alliance was made out of a Blue Sun Coffee can. If you look closely, you can read the word "caffeine" on it. During "Shindig", think back to when River was tearing off can food labels leading to the crew having "mystery meals" (as Book put it). These were cans of food with the Blue Sun logo. As for Jayne's shirt, it was adorned with a Blue Sun logo...so River was more after the shirt. To reinforce this point, Jayne tells Mal that he is owed a shirt to replace the one River destroyed when being sewed up by Simon.

That would be a sound decision. Sure, there’s some episodes that stand out more than others but I don’t think there’s a single bad episode

When you got up to Out of Gas last week I decided to revisit just that episode with your reaction, and then ended up going back and watching several other episodes too. This was one of my favourite shows as a teenager and I hadn’t watched it in years, so it was fun revisiting it with you, so much that I might even end up going back and watching it all from the beginning soon. I’m glad you’re enjoying it and I’m excited for you to see some of the great episodes coming up, not to mention the film.

Razor Bikini

Yes I’m pretty certain it was

Am I right in thinking that during the scrapyard scene the part that Wash picks up and mindlessly throws towards the ship was in fact one of those catalyst thingys that was nearly the death of them all when it broke in the last episode? I really hope so, cos that would be an awesome little moment

James Hadden

We've gotten to see a few of those scenes so far in this series, where Mal does his thing. That last conversation between him and Jayne was just another great example. It is always SO SATISFYING watching Mal in full-on "Captain" mode.

Richard Flores

Thanks, Vero! I've got to get through the workday first, but I can't wait to see your face when a certain person makes a certain phone call... 😧
