The crew sure is having big issues, but Captain Mal shows why he is such an amazing captain.
It was just so lovely to see how each crew member came aboard 🥰

I love the little surprises that Jayne gives us from time to time, like supplying Badger with a vocabulary word in "Shindig" (episode 4, about 10:22): Mal: You backed out of a deal last time, left us hanging. Jayne: Hurt our feelings. Mal: You recall why that took place? Badger: I had a problem with your attitude, is why. I felt you was... What's the word? Jayne: "Pretentious?" [Mal looks at Jayne as if wondering, "Where did *that* come from?"] 😂

We know all these rooms, this dining area, this infirmary, this cargo bay. 2024-01-30 01:39:54 +0000 UTCMy favorite episode. I blubber like a baby pretty much the entire time. I love how meeting everybody for the first time really highlights their individual personalities. Wash being Wash (but with a mustache!) and annoying Zoe, Jayne on a manhunt negotiating for more money, Inara just totally having Mal's number right from the start, Kaylee enjoying some sex. It just really brings home just how much we love these people. And Mal lovingly holding on to one of the pipes in Serenity while he talks to the crew. This episode is when I realized I'm right there with Mal and Inara and everyone else: I love this ship. She really is family. She's the character in the show that glues everybody together. It's hard not to get all emotioned up when you see Mal falling in love with her at first sight.

2024-01-30 01:39:48 +0000 UTCIt's funny you mentioned little call backs from episode to episode and that's one of the beauties of this show, hardly a minute of screen or line of dialog is wasted, takes a couple watches see all the little details but this one is a great example. The part that broke is the part kalee has been grilling about the entire season up to now starting when they walked off the ship to load passengers on the first episode. Not a spoiler at all but you will see that same part again next episode in a point of irony if you look close enough.

All of these things that start off as "mutually beneficial" and then grow into deeper relationships and caring for each other. "Y'all gonna be here when I wake up?" I mean, wow. And then that final flashback. You get to see him fall in love at first sight with Serenity. It is just so sweet.
