Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)* FULL LENGTH REACTION

Thank you to our Marble Winner Joshua S. for choosing this movie!!

Especially since there is Across the Spider-Verse that came out last year, and now I need to watch that one too 😁

I absolutely love alternate/parallel universes/multiverses because it's so neat seeing different variations of characters that all share similar traits.

I love how Nic Cage has been making a comeback these past few years, I need to see his older stuff AND newer stuff now.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)* FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

oh I just watched the first Doctor Strange again... and it was in 2016 and they mentioned "the multiverse" maybe one time. So that was actually prior to the Spider-verse which was 2018 - but in Doctor Strange they did not use "the multiverse" in what we know it used now. They only tap into the other dimensions to draw power from them for example to cast spells. They mentioned multi-verse but did not use it in the same way as Rick & Morty... which come to think of it is from 2013 another 5 years earlier.

media or medium is the material used in art... for example in a painting the medium could be oil paints or acrylic etc - you probably know this. In oils you can "push" the paint around because it doesn't dry, it takes weeks, months to dry so you can keep working it. Acrylic paint you can still use some oil paint techniques but it will dry much quicker - you can add like a gel to make it so it takes longer to dry. "mixed media" in art is where you combine mediums, like gold leaf in a painting... well, that has to be mixed media. You're using some kind of paint with thin sheets of gold to create the work. They eat gold leaf too.

I worked in a studio for a while... and we got paid to do artwork versions of music promo and video promo stuff... But in the studio they left us alone and we experimented with different techniques. It's like we're given an assignment but we decide what to do... and also how to do it, kind of advertising and we were the low budget artists. I always tell this story where "the bass player" this guy, some of the guys does other things and this guy plays bass... anyway he started using gold leaf. I was thinking, wait, wut? I've taken a lot of art classes and I kinda know what gold leaf is, typically in history it's used for gilding. There are ways to apply it you know - I've never used it so I don't know specifics but... yes we had one of the artists started using gold leaf. A 'normal' artist you know will have a specialty and they end up with a particular style, a recognizable style but others still experiment with different medium and styles you know. I've taken a lot of classes - I've tried lithograph, serigraph, etching, sculpture, oil painting... a bit, acrylic, watercolor, airbrush, charcoal, pastels. I'm good at hatching, I kinda default to hatching when I draw. While some will use a sharpened pencil, I'll use an unsharpened tip or my favorite is using china marker which is like a dark wax pencil and you don't sharpen it, you remove paper from the tip to expose more of the lead. It draws what looks like a very dark pencil line to me. Also there is no erasing πŸ™‚ I don't erase, I use ink too and you can't erase that. Erasing should be used to create highlights, not for removing error, you just leave those in πŸ˜„ Anyway I can do mural type stuff. My friend calls me says we have to decorate a sushi shop... he hands me an illustration of a koi fish - okay now make this 5 feet tall on the wall. That was fun, we got paid in sushi... I was hoping free meals every week!... but no, lol. I might have photos of that.

Yes, Shrek 3 is next month actually!! I think after that one I'll start the Puss in Boots movies. It's neat when a movie uses a whole new style and does really well. It encourages other studios to take chances

I like recognizing actors because it shows another facet/skill of theirs to do voice acting. I like seeing versatile actors :D What kind of art did/do you do?

Verowak

I've seen the first season, yes, I still need to watch Season 2 of What If...

Couple points. 1. Yes, amazing soundtrack, have a couple songs from here in my playlist 2. Animation which you were wondering if it had been done up to this point, absolutely not, this was completely unique and new when it came out, nothing looked like this and has since revolutionized the animation industry with its style that has been attempted to be replicated by other studios. 3. Rewatching this really gets me hoping you get back to the Shrek franchise soon, so that way you can also get to Puss In Boots movies, specifically the newest one which came out long after this and is one of those times where DreamWorks tried to take aspects of animation from this movie and put their own spin on it.

I don't usually pay attention to who are doing the voice acting... because why? Because they are creating a character... and that character isn't them. The character must stand alone as a viable character without a big-name behind it. It's art and I support the work of the artist... in this case the fruit of their "work" is the character they've created. By the way nice artwork of Spider-man, its sweet! 😊 I have some old artwork too.

Mannygogou

I'd like to recommend a couple of movies off the top of my head, The Butterfly Effect (2004) Primer (2004) Why are these the same year? πŸ˜„

Mannygogou

You've seen What If... yes? If not that will be a lot of fun for you. Into the Spider-verse is 2018. Doc Strange Madness is 2022 and Everything Everywhere All At Once is 2021. So Spider-verse is 3 years earlier. I can probably come up with earlier Multiverse movies from the past... Also... one of my favorites is Rick & Morty. If you haven't see it, it's legend! πŸ˜„

Mannygogou

Thank you!! I see it so often I forget it hangs on a wall, I'm glad I remembered that I have it before watching the movie lol

Verowak

I didn't realize this was the first movie showing a multiverse, it makes it just that much better!

Verowak

This aunt May seems pretty involved with Peter's Spider-man-ness, I would love to know how she knows Liv!!

Verowak

Having different framerate isn't common, and now it makes sense why the animation seemed weird at first lol

Verowak

The perks of being behind on watching movies lol

Verowak

I will 100% be doing a Nic Cage poll, I don't think I've seen many (if any) of his movies :D

Verowak

Thank you, Joshua S.! And also, that painting, that is awesome.

Richard Flores

A small detail that was pointed out to me that I cannot un-see now, when we first meet Doc Ock and she mentions that her friends call her "Liv" and her enemies call her "Doc Ock", cut too when they all end up and Aunt May's house and Doc Ock comes in the door, Aunt May says, "Oh great, it's Liv". How do Aunt May and Doc Ock know each other?

DarthChef

I finished watching... I'm glad you like it! When I saw this in the theater I did not realize that was Nick Cage, true. Also this came out before Everything Everywhere All at Once... and before What If... and before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I think this is the nicer intro into the Multiverse. Some reactors... in other channels would have enjoyed the other films better had they watched this first - chronologically this was released first (2018). They explain the concepts here pretty well. Once you've seen multiple Spider-people then you immediately get those other movies. There are a couple of other reactors who I'm waiting for them to watch this... hopefully they will.

Mannygogou

When I first watched this movie I hated whatever was going on with the framerate of the animation. but after re-watching it and the sequel I respect the hell out of it. I would elaborate but don't want to spoil anything.

Ashley

Every time I watch this I see something new. In the 1st part of the movie Miles is in 12fps after his awakening it switches to 24fps. I love that you caught that. You are lucky that you can jump directly into Across the Spiderverse.

DMON

You should absolutely collect some Nic Cage suggestions and do a Nic Cage poll sometime. If I could only choose one of his movies to suggest it would have to be "Vampires Kiss"

Ashley

wow what a great choice !!

Mannygogou

Yessssssss!!!!!
