Romance movie suggestions

Seeing as February is Valentine's Day, I will be watching a romance movie!  I know there are a LOT of different ones, and I'm not very well versed in that genre so I am asking you to suggest romance movies for me!  It can be romance/action, romance/comedy, or whatever other combination there is.

Please recommend 1 romance movie each in the comments.

I will then choose a bunch of the recommendations (either randomly or have someone choose a handful) and put them in a poll for Patreon to vote on.

I assume romance isn't the most popular genre, but I think it'll be fun!

I eagerly await to learn about the OG and vintage movies!! Those are movies that I know nothing about and most likely never heard of

Verowak

Hey Vero,I hope you come to trust me with the OG & Vintage movies.🌹

Celeste McAllister

I have no idea what that one is about, all I can think of is Bugs Bunny 😁

Verowak

For romance in February so many great movies are already mentioned,so sticking with vintage romcom gems I have 'What's up Doc?' 1972...

Celeste McAllister

Roman Holiday 1953

Scott Howard

For the most part if I don't know much about a genre or set of movies, I'll have someone to help out 😀

Verowak

Ah, great. It's cool that you have a "poll spotter" for this one.

WastedPo

Ultimately, I do have someone that will check to make sure it works well. If a "ringer" wins and it's not very romance-y, I can still watch it as the winner, but take a runner up that IS a romance movie as the designated valentine's day reaction if that makes sense. I'm still learning that people can't read my mind and know exactly what I mean all the time, so even for past polls, I'm learning how to better ask for suggestions for polls.

Verowak

If the title has "volcano", I'm intrigued lol

Verowak

I'm a little leery of movies titles that have been mentioned that I think only have scant elements of romance in them, but the "focal genre" is really something else. On a Venn diagram, I think reaction-channel patrons and romance fans wouldn't have a lot of overlap. Basically, I wonder if the whole point of having a romance poll will be nullified if a "ringer" is put on there. Like, if a romance poll was made with 4 traditional rom-coms, plus Pulp Fiction (to give an exaggerated example, with the justification that Vincent was romantically interested in Mia Wallace), Pulp Fiction would win in a landslide.

WastedPo

"Heaven Can Wait" (1978) is a remake of the classic "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" (1941), penned by the late Buck Henry. Joe Pendleton is yanked from this Earth before his time and must find a way back to his life and the woman he falls in love with along the way.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Yes that’s it! I didn’t want to mention that in case you didn’t know lol, so you could go in as blind as possible. All three movies are brilliant, but the first one is a perfect Valentine’s Day movie because it captures the feeling and experience of falling in love better than any other movie, I think. A lot of other great movies have been suggested tho so I’m looking forward to whatever ends up winning the poll.

Razor Bikini

I'll throw in the suggestion of Pretty In Pink. It's an 80's classic and the soundtrack is great.

DMON

Nic Cage in a romance? I didn't think he did that, I love learning things about actors lol

Verowak

Ahhh!!! I've seen the meme but never even know what movie it was from lol

Verowak

I remember seeing a like 1 minute clip of Twilight on Jimmy Kimmel many years back and I thought it was a purposely done bad parody of the movie. Turns out it wasn't 🤣

Verowak

I deleted my previous suggestion of "When Harry Met Sally." Even though that's a classic (and it would almost definitely win in a poll), I think I'd rather the lesser-known "IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU" with Nicholas Cage and Bridget Fonda. It's kinda cool to see Cage playing just a normal character. The movie was also likened to a Frank Capra-esque story when it was released. I also love the music score and cinematography.

WastedPo

"Say Anything" (1989) - "I gave her my heart, and she gave me a pen." This is the film that the holding a boom box above your head and blasting "In Your Eyes" meme comes from.

Kevin

Fifty Shades of Grey (it’s not good (at all), but it’s still worth watching just to see how awful it is). Another type of movie like this is Twilight (even more awful)

Zach Zeegen

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Bemwen

Joe vs the Volcano is the first of 3 movies with the same two leads. The movie is about 4 things sort-of... but in any listing it's labeled as a rom-com. I just like to add "adventure" because there's a volcano in the title.

Mannygogou

Laxjedi, Rom-coms... should have a romance as a key driver of the movie. Without the "com" (comedy) then it opens up romances that may be more serious... or maybe have other elements such as adventure maybe. Often if the romance is "too dramatic" 😄 then it becomes drama instead of rom-com, of course it can't be 'com' anymore if it's too dramatic, maybe tragedy?

Mannygogou

I love going into a movie blind! It's so fun having no idea who is in the movie lol

Verowak

famous couple... You might know them from other rom-com movies such as... (I'm not saying) lol Often it's a wonder when the reactor doesn't know who are in the movie 😊 of course you can look them up but... you never heard it from me who stars in the movie.

Mannygogou

Pretty Woman (1990)

Paul S

Just watched it on New Year's Eve... one of the most romantic films ever...

FermatSim

This gets my vote as well. A young Brad Pitt, some *very* memorable scenes... Second vote would go to Amelie.

Kniggit

Ninotchka, a 1939 film. A Rom-Com before Rom-Coms were Rom-Coms. Still great after all these years.

Jeff Barnes

I know some of this soundtrack!! 🥰

Verowak

Me too! Not your cookie-cutter Hollywood boy-meets-girl story. A very unique telling. And it was nominated for 5 Academy Awards.

PlaidGriffin

One of my all-time favorite movies <3

FermatSim

Amelie (2001). A quirky, fun movie. It's foreign, however it's French, so Vero shouldn't need the subtitles, right?!?

PlaidGriffin

Notting Hill (1999) - Starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant While checking Wikipedia to verify the year, I discovered something new to me: _Notting Hill_ is the highest grossing British film of all time!

Phil Stubblefield

Notting Hill

Cliff Adams

Before Sunrise would be an excellent choice!

FermatSim

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind <3 It's actually perfect for Valentine's Day!

FermatSim

So I Married an Axe Murderer

Arnoldlayne252

Just by the title, I never would have guessed "Joe vs the Volcano" was a romance :D This is awesome

Verowak

You’ve Got Mail (1998)

James Hadden

Yes I was tempted to choose ones where “love” based romance is more of an element rather than the key plot device/driver. Joe vs the Volcano definitely qualifies as a romantic comedy so good choice. But by all means please go onto Vero’s movie recommendation Google form to input titles such as Last of the Mohicans (what I’d call a “romantic epic”) and others like it if you haven’t already done so. I’d really like her to watch it sometime!

Laxjedi

The Princess Bride (1987)

Richard Flores

And if she likes it, maybe it'll inspire her to check out High Fidelity or Return to Me the next time there's a rom-com night.

Jimmie V

Joe VS The Volcano (1990)... adventure romance comedy Very interesting that you didn't say "comedy" so selections not necessarily rom-com... but Romance... therefore I would include Last of the Mohicans (1992) which is not a comedy 🙂 but still I'll stick with Joe as my pick.

About Time

samboe

Like I said, the extras are only there in case you need to pad out your poll, or if a title or actor/actress peaks your interest.

JAKH

Famous pottery/clay scene often spoofed by other films/shows

JAKH

Just one per person, thank you! I've heard of "40 days and 40 nights", interesting there's also a "Six Days, Seven Nights" 😂

Verowak

I'm learning about movies that I never would have guessed were romance lol

Verowak

Well… Vero said it can be a “romance/…………”so I took the opportunity

King_Panarisi

That's a horror film, not a romance

JAKH

Excellent choice

JAKH

Even if I just stick with movies where romance is the primary plot driver or theme, that’s still tough to pick just one. I’ll go with “Ghost” (1990).

Laxjedi

"Six Days, Seven Nights" (1998) Harrison Ford, Anne Heche If you need extra suggestions: "So I Married An Axe Murderer" (1993) Mike Myers, Nancy Travis "Keeping Up With the Joneses" (2016) Zack Galifinakis, Isla Fisher, Gal Gadot "Killers" (2010) Ashton kutcher, Katherine Heigl, Tom Selleck "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" (2006) Uma Thurman, Luke Wilson "Ladyhawke" (1985) Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfieffer "Milk Money" (1994) Melanie Griffith, Ed Harris "Sabrina" (1954 original) Humphry Bogart, Audry Hepburn "Sabrina" (1995 remake) Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond "The Prince and the Showgirl" (1957) Marilyn Monroe, Lawrence Olivier

JAKH

The holiday... it's actually more like a christmas movie but I think it still counts

Konstantin Knopp

One per person lol, which is your top pick?

Verowak

That's the trilogy that spans like 20 years right?

Verowak

I suggest "Meet Joe Black"

Andreas

Silver Linings Playbook

Douglas LaFreniere

Sleepless in Seattle

Barry Hammock

I've heard the name, that's it lol I do want to get more romance/rom-coms on the channel since I've seen almost none lol

Verowak

Titanic

King_Panarisi

Grosse Pointe Blank

Jimmie V

Well, it is hard to pick just one...🤔 I think I'm going with "Notting Hill" with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. Let me know if you know it, then I would like to suggest another one. Btw, I would like you (and reactors in general) to react to good romances or romantic comedies more often...🙂

silverarrow06

Romancing the stone, I think it counts

Bubba Fett

About time

Joshua Singleton

I think she meant one movie per person, not per comment.

Razor Bikini

Billy Dancel

Oh my god I love romance movies, idk how I can just pick one, but since I just recently rewatched it and have been thinking about it a lot I’m gonna go with Before Sunrise. Not enough people have seen that one, very naturalistic romance, feels like you’re just a fly on the wall while two people are talking and connecting.

Razor Bikini

An Affair to Remember

Billy Dancel

„When Harry met Sally“. A classic!
