Chernobyl Episode 4 * FULL LENGTH REACTION

2,000?!  They seriously told them 2,000 thinking it would be FINE?! 😡

I'm so incredibly disappointed in people that are in charge.

I honestly did not think the baby would be alive when it came out.  I actually thought the fetus would have never developed enough in the first place.   I guess this goes to show the extent of my medical and radiation knowledge 😂

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Incredibly infuriating, and sadly way too common. Everything is about power and appearances 😨

I absolutely agree with you Verowak - honor based cultures are infuriating to deal with. I can’t stand that mentality of maintaining an image over objective reality. Reality wins that battle EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! It’s such an unbelievably short sighted and destructive way to live.

Answering your questions about the rifles: These are Mosin-Nagant Model 1891/30 bolt-action rifles. The design was adopted by Tzarist Russia as the Russian Army's standard rifle in 1891 and served in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05), WW1, and the Russian Civil War. It was modified to the shorter version seen in the show in 1930 (hence the "M1891/30"), which served in the 1939 Russo-Finnish "Winter War" and in WW2. It was replaced in the late 1940's/early 1950's by the AK-47 and later AKM. It was used by the Chinese and North Koreans in the Korean War, and by the Viet Minh against the French in Indochina in the 1950's. The ammunition is Russian "3-line" or .30 caliber (diameter of the bullet), internationally designated "7.62x54mmR Russian". this is comparable to other countries standard rifles of the early 1900's, such as the Commonwealth's .303 British (7.7x56mmR British), American .30-06 (7.62x63mm Springfield Model 1906), and German 7.92x57mm Mauser. The first number is the diameter of the bullet in mm, and the second is the length of the case in mm. The "R" stands for "rimmed", which means that the base of the casing had a rim that is wider than the body of the cartridge. The army rifles of that era all had had an "effective range" (average soldier can hit a target 50% of the time) of 800-1000m. By way of comparison, the US .30-06 design specification was that it be powerful enough to kill a cavalry horse in 1 shot at 1000 yards (900m). It has a 5-round internal magazine which is fed from the top from stripper clips that each hold 5 rounds by the rimmed base. You push the stack of cartridges off of the stripper clip into the rifle, then remove the stripper clip. The ammunition comes in wooden crates, each of which has 2 sealed metal cases, which are opened like a sardine can. Each metal case contains 440 rounds pre-packaged in cardboard sleeves in sets of 5. This ammunition is still used today in Soviet-designed and modern Russian belt-fed machine guns and sniper rifles. This ammunition is different from that used in the AK-47, which is "7.62x39mm Soviet" (same 7.62mm bullet, but a shorter case, meaning less gunpowder and thus shorter range). 7.62x39mm ammunition comes in crates of 1080 rounds instead of 880 (they use the same crates and metal cases as the 7.62x54mmR).

The picture of the mother after losing her baby, the unbearable agony on her face, is probably the picture of this show that haunted me the most. 😭🙈 How do you come back from something like that? Especially when you're alone in this world? 😨

Absolutely a great episode, yeah. People willingly working on the front line when they know what is wrong is nothing but remarkable. I feel angry for the people who had to work on the front line when all information about how dangerous it is could not be relayed properly

Verowak

Yes!! It is so ridiculously frustrating and I hate it when people feel they must be the absolute best at something, so they lie about anything wrong. It's so stupid to me

Verowak

If there was ever a time when we wanted an episode to be over quickly. I started this comment before their secret meeting and I was going to say that the biggest problem they all faced were dealing with improper communication and information. It doesn’t stand close to the sheer arrogance of wanting to be the absolute greatest nuclear powerhouse on the planet. Knowing of a potential reoccurrence and covering it up and disregarding it, is being completely responsible of the catastrophe itself.

Regarding the baby, I have no great medical or radiation knowledge either, but I suspect this is one of the shows greatest levels of artistic license. I’m not sure how a fetus would absorb radiation whilst the mother remained unaffected. Still, another great episode. I think all of the work carried out by these people on the front line was remarkable and truly heroic. One to go.
