Clone Wars Episode 611 (120) *FULL LENGTH REACTION

Alright... I thought Yoda already knew about force ghosts.  Damn Qui-Gon being ahead of Yoda on this!!

Now I'm curious about how Qui-Gon figured it out.

I love how Yoda trusted Anakin to get him out 😂

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the episode.  Also know there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

We get to see how the Jedi can learn to become force ghosts!!! 😄

It's so frustrating to see the Jedi!!! I'm really glad that we got to see Yoda interact with Qui-Gon, though I would be curious to know what Yoda would think if someone else had been contacted by a force ghost. Would he have thought it's impossible? Anakin just being able to do it because he's the Chosen one is ... a bit of a cop-out, but can be ok I suppose lol This arc is the only reason that Yoda is a bit redeemed for me. It's really good to see him not be as blind as the other Jedi (Mace and Ki-Adi mundi). I would have liked to have seen Yoda in a better light more often though. I do think overall he is good, but very blind at times too. He's flawed, which is good!

And it shows he's not blindly following the Jedi code with no extra thought to "what if we don't know everything"

When Yoda implies that he's spoken with Qui-Gon and Anakin asks "Isn't that impossible?", Yoda remarks that there are things about the Force they don't know. Later on when it is suggested that Yoda spoke with the dead, Ki-Adi Mundi says "That's impossible" and Anakin immediately adds "As far as we know" in quite a sharp tone. I always enjoyed this little detail, Anakin seems to hold respect for Yoda.

Great “Force Lore” arc this one. In this episode you hear Qui-Gon talk to Yoda about the two parts that make up the whole of the Force; the Living Force and the Cosmic Force. Based on things they demonstrate a bit throughout Episode I (and even more so its novelization which I had read back when the movie first came out), Qui-Gon was really focused in on and more attuned to the Living Force; far more than any other of his contemporary Jedi Masters. He was a bit of a rebel outcast, disobeying the Council, centred more on the “here and now”, rather than the big picture/future stuff, and is much better at understanding and empathizing with living beings; such as him accepting and not being immediately dismissive of your best buddy Jar-Jar, and leading him to sense something extra special about Anakin right away. Yoda is more about the big picture Cosmic Force, although he does have a good read on people (900 years of experience probably helps). I’d consider Obi-Wan as a mix of Yoda and Qui-Gon influences, with ingrained Jedi dogma probably causing him to lean more towards the Cosmic side (until he got that extra training from ghost Qui-Gon). I’d imagine that Anakin is like a Force avatar in the making (which is kind of implied in that Mortis arc), who really really focuses on the Living Force aspect first and foremost; thus he cares strongly about others, especially friends and loved ones, and always thinks about the here and now (and thus he’s far more susceptible to Dark side influences, as we well know). But he can easily tap into the Cosmic stuff (premonitions especially), and enhance his powers; so maybe becoming a ghost at the end of Episode VI is just innate to himself. And there is always that hypothetical question regarding the Prequels; what if Qui-Gon had been alive to be Anakin’s master? Hmmmm… I think what Qui-Gon was trying to say in this episode was that because he was so strongly attuned to the Living Force, he almost accidentally stumbled onto ability to maintain a presence, but didn’t have enough special training to manifest himself beyond a voice, and thus was “chosen” to be the one to guide others to the full ability. There were even hints in Episode II of Qui-Gon being a Living Force voice spirit; you can hear him cry out “Anakin! NO!” during the part where Yoda is meditating and senses Anakin’s pain, suffering, and anger during the time when Anakin’s mom dies and he murders all those Sandpeople. As far as to why Qui-Gon is a ghost at the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, maybe once the code gets cracked he can get reverse trained, who knows? Anyways, great that they got Liam Neeson back again to do the voice work for this!

Lots going on in this episode (and arc) We have yet more examples of jedi arrogance. How many times in this episode did they say something is impossible or they weren't aware of something or didn't know it so it couldn't be true. This is where we start to see Yoda get more distanced from the council, and how appropriate that the person pulling him from the council is Qui-Gon. As Anakin said, the jedi were not aware of force ghosts. The belief to this point is that once someone died, their spirit/essence was put back into the living force and loses all personality, it's just a drop in the ocean essentially. This is where we see Yoda learn about it from Qui-Gon, then as you mentioned Yoda sends Obi-Wan to then learn from Qui-Gon. Anakin, as always, is a special case. The assumption is that since he is the chosen one and on the level of the Mortis gods, Anakin can basically do whatever he wants with the force, so him becoming a force ghost is just something he can do. Not much more of an explanation than that. Going with the jedi arrogance is their rigidity. Someone brings up a possibility of something and they just shoot it down. No investigation, no trying to understand further, just "he's old and losing it" when it comes to Yoda. At least we see Yoda goes to Anakin to inquire further, tries to get the council to help, but ultimately it's up to him and him alone. Qui-Gon basically yells at him and says he needs to do it "naturally" in a way. In all of star wars, the "good" side has been nature/natural and the "bad side" has been technology, machinery, etc. Yoda trying to reach enlightenment by using technology is exactly the problem with the council. They're blind to their own disconnection with the force. Also love the line "the danger is not to know the truth". How appropriate We saw it when Ahsoka was assigned to Anakin that Yoda really knows him. For all his issues (mostly related to the council), Yoda really does know people. Their tendencies, fears, personalities, etc. so who better to go to when you want to defy the council than Anakin? You mentioned R2 will eventually be back to Degobah, and in my head that's why Luke ends up right by Yoda on that entire planet. R2 knew where to go.
