Scream (1996) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

What's your favorite scary movie?

I didn't think this movie would hold up 30 years later, but it does!! It's really well made, and though I wasn't terrified, I really liked it.

I kept thinking "Billy is a misdirection, he's purposefully creepy so it won't be him"....

I'm very curious to see the second one, and I feel like that one will be less comedic, but I could be wrong.  The first half was definitely scarier while the second half felt way more fun and not serious.

Reminder that you need your own copy of the movie to watchalong, and that there is an extension that allows you to do Picture-in-Picture in case you are interested: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en

Also, 3 days left for the Hans Zimmer poll, don't forget to vote, it's a close one!!

Scream (1996) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

That's very true, I guess it was the time that Drew Barrymore was a sought after actor and people wanted to see her in movies then lol

Verowak

Yes, she was. It made sense as a marketing stunt to get people to see the movie and to catch people on the wrong foot by killing her off at the beginning. "Game of Thrones" did it with Sean Bean later and there are numerous films in movie history using the same trick to surprise their audiences. 🙂

silverarrow06

All you had to say was taht Ewan McGregor is in it, and I'm in!

Verowak

"Nightwatch" with the young Ewan McGregor is definitely a big must see. 🤩

I could be wrong about the billing, it was a long time ago, but I’m pretty sure she was all over the promo for the movie.

James Hadden

It’s what it sounded like when Drew’s boyfriend got killed, but I could be wrong. Either way I’m still adopting it as a saying 😊

James Hadden

🤣I don't realize I say things until people point them out, like "Where is he dead?" I'm going to have to check it out during my edit. I mean, her nipples were on full alert, there's no WAY she survives this scene 😁 It would be fun to think of different things people do that we could assume they're murderers (like littering)

Verowak

I haven't heard of either of those films, but it seems you quite enjoyed them! :D

Verowak

Drew Barrymore being top billed makes no sense 😂 Ahh Dewey, ok so he's not dead. I thought I saw him moving when Gale fell on him, but I couldn't confirm it, so this helps, thank you!

Verowak

Oh that's so awesome! I had no idea what Wes Craven looked like so I definitely would never have guessed. I also didn't read it in IMDB trivia lol

Verowak

I certainly wasn't expecting that from the movies, so I'll definitely watch them all!! I love a murder mystery!!!

Verowak

I’ve never seen (or even recognise) Nightwatch, but I’m guessing you’d recommend it? I have Mimic on Bluray so luckily won’t wear out for me. I haven’t watched it in quite a while so time to check out the director’s cut again, thanks for the reminder Richard. It’s been too long without Mira Sorvino on screen for me.

James Hadden

I vividly remember my childhood where I wore out VHS tapes of Nightwatch and Mimic (both Dimension films). And for the life of me, I thought they came out first and failed, but Scream was their bouncing baby brother. And now I realize that yes, horror did get "re-energised" by this film. So many old and recent and current horror films that I love, they are all in different ways traced back to this movie. Good job, James, trust your instincts, cause they're right.

Richard Flores

Mine too, or at the very least my favourite horror franchise.

James Hadden

Favourite Vero quotes: “Where is he dead?”. I’m going to start using this when the location of a fatal wound is undetermined 😁 “She’s going to get killed - you can see her nipples”. Maybe this should be rule #4 Also, I wish we could identify murderers just from witnessing them litter 😁

James Hadden

More knowledgeable people in this genre could tell you better, but pretty certain this movie completely re-energised the stale and flagging horror genre in the 90s.

James Hadden

The big surprise watching this in the cinema was top billed (I think) Drew Barrymore getting killed off in the first scene. BTW it was Dewey being put in the ambulance at the end.

James Hadden

Fun reaction thanks. Props for spotting the janitor being dressed as Freddy Krueger, and you may have read this in the trivia but not included it - he was actually played by Wes Craven, the director of both movies.

James Hadden

That's the Scream movie series, they're all murder mystery who-dun-its, and the fun part is trying to guess the killer each film! One of my favorite film series from start to finish.

David Crabtree

One day I'll watch a tradition horror movie! I liked the murder mystery aspect, it was super fun!

Verowak

My favorite horror film! The thing about Scream is it's not a tradition slasher/horror, it's a murder mystery who-dun-it, which makes it a lot of fun!
