This has made me want to watch Star Trek even more, so I can rewatch Galaxy Quest and pick up on more spoofs 😁

not at all what I was expecting, but it was so fun to watch!  Amazing actors in this one: Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver and Sam Rockwell!! 🤩

Galaxy Quest (1999) | FULL LENGTH REACTION

Comments

That's the beauty of it, you don't need extensive Star Trek knowledge to really enjoy it! Having seen Tim Allen on on Home Improvement, he wasn't my cup of tea. He's slight better now that I've seen him in Galaxy Quest lol

Verowak

Great reaction! This is easily one of my favorite movies! I'm a die hard Star Trek fan, but even without any Trek knowledge, this film stands on its own as a great film. Probably one of my favorite cast performances from top to bottom. But wow, you definitely have it in for Tim Allen though. But that's the beauty of subjective entertainment, different strokes for different folks. Tim Allen is one of my favorite performers in Hollywood, his sitcom Last Man Standing(2011-2021) is one of my all-time favorite shows, and Tim is an even better person in real life.

Mathazar was played by Enrico Colantoni

JAKH

Oooh a non-Star Trek reference!!! I feel like dealing with fans is part of the deal of becoming famous. Though people may not like it, it's their job, but I can completely understand losing patience over time. I'm going to have to look up what else Mathazar has been in, he looked a little bit familiar, but it's not an actor I recognize

Verowak

The actor playing the Thermian leader Mathazar is Canadian, and later starred in the police series "Flashpoint", set and filmed in Toronto. The second time that Saris is seen, his appearence has changed: he has a metal-plate eye-patch, a metal robotic left hand , and blue marks on his face (scars) The scene where Tim Allen yells at the fans is a reference to a real life event where Bruce Boxlietner blew up at fans at a "Babylon 5" convention, which happened just a year or so before "Galaxy Quest" was filmed

JAKH

Ooh all movies I haven't seen! (shocking, I know) 🤣

Verowak

I've seen Quigley Down Under mentioned a lot, and I know nothing about it, so it would be fun to watch that one first

Verowak

I fully expect Moon to win the eventual Sam Rockwell Movie poll lol

Verowak

I'll be joining the club to watch it soon!!

Verowak

Besides Moon, which is great, some other recommended Sam Rockwell movies you may have not seen, where he is lead or larger supporting role: Jojo Rabbit (2019) Vice (2018) The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (2005) Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002)

Laxjedi

Alan Rickman movie recommendations: "Quigley Down Under" (1990) "Sweeney Todd" (2007) "Dogma" (1999)

JAKH

'Moon' is such a good film.

As Richard said, no, the vast majority don’t get anything this special done, it’s usually just a short filler on DVD/Bluray filmed at the time. This is a full documentary production done for the 20th anniversary

James Hadden

That has been on my [redact streaming service here] watchlist for some time, and I just keep forgetting about it. Watching it now, before I forget again. [Edit] Oh, god, I had to pause it not half-way through cause I lost it at Justin Long's impression of Sam Rockwell. [Edit Part 2] And it ends in happy tears, this is not unexpected. Hey James, quote is included. Hey Verowak, no they do not.

Richard Flores

Sam Rockwell movies! Moon! (2009) That is all. (Everything else you covered during IMDB. Like Mr. Colantoni defining the voice, the unfortunate way some people view the amazing Jeri Ryan among others, etc. The thing about Sigourney Weaver was new though. That was fun.)

Richard Flores

His delivery is perfect!!!

Verowak

Oh yeah I know red shirts are canon fodder. One of the memes I've picked up at some point 🤣

Verowak

I haven't seen your reaction yet but in Star Trek there's "a thing" where a guy in a red shirt that tags along with the main characters... they beam down to the planet and the "red shirt" guy dies every time. LoL so this is what Guy was worried about, the extra always gets killed. I don't know if you've seen a lot of the original series to get this meme. Because of this, for some fans Guy is their favorite! lol... That's the only thing they don't explain. The other tropes we saw examples of in the tv series in the beginning, so they were good at explaining everything that's why no Star Trek is needed to enjoy this movie, it's a complete movie.

Mannygogou

"...what a savings..." 😆😅

Mannygogou

I mean, it's pretty damn awesome 🤣

Verowak

Ooh The making of documentary sounds like it would be neat!! Do a lot of movies have these types of "making of" films done at the same time?

Verowak

It seemed like it was less of a direct parody of a movie, and more general so I'm glad about that. I think they did a great job with the movie, really just fun and entertaining!!

Verowak

By Grabthar's Hammer!!!

Verowak

I love this movie, and hear a lot of people consider it the best “Star Trek” movie

James Hadden

If you enjoyed it, I’d highly recommend watching the making of documentary, something I enjoyed as much as the movie itself. It’s been years since I watched it so can’t remember for sure, but hopefully the recounted quote from Alan Rickman towards Tim Allen is included

James Hadden

Out of all the ones on your poll, this one probably relies least on any spoof/parody elements, and definitely doesn’t require extensive knowledge of any specific show/movie. It’s more of a well done and loving “homage” to space sci-fi and sci-fi fandom as a whole, so a general awareness of what those aspects are like are more than sufficient (but definitely watch some Star Trek and such, as those were all pretty good in their own right). It’s just an all around great movie, and so glad you enjoyed it as well!

Laxjedi

Oh wow, I can't wait to watch this one 🙂
