Well this was an episode. Definitely not what I expected, even though I know this aspect of war existed. It's things like this that make me lose faith in humanity, and seeing how things are across the world today doesn't help.
Honestly, the best episode of the series, just the impact of it is enough to make it outstanding.
I kept expecting an ambush or something for the patrol, but luckily (unluckily?) it wasn't.

Very interesting to see it done this way, technology is great in showing us things that not everyone can/will do. Watching them to this, all I could think of was how horrific it would be to jump out of that plane while there are bullets flying around everywhere. Also just thinking of how nuts it would be to see the ground and everything going on from up high. Thank you for this!

2023-10-04 22:16:17 +0000 UTCThe only movie I know from that list is Lawrence of Arabia, and I just learned it's a WW1 movie, neat! The Lost Battalion (original) seems pretty interesting since actual soldiers played themselves. That doesn't happen often!

General Patton seemed to predict accurately that people would deny anything happened. It sucks though because way more people were forced to see the atrocities committed there.

2023-10-03 09:14:53 +0000 UTCA hard subject, but there is a 4-part documentary on Netflix (US, I am not sure about in Canada) called "Einsatzgruppen", about what the SS did before the Camps, and it also explains why they switched to the Camps from their original plan. Maybe not for reactions, but just for your own information. There are also a couple episodes of the PBS series "Secrets of the Dead" about archaeological digs related to the Einsatzgruppen.

Nixon's wife was divorcing him because she wanted to marry her boyfriend. They mention the Germans "forgetting" to blow up a bridge on the Rhine. For more on this, watch the moderately accurate movie "The Bridge at Remagen" (1969) General Patton ordered that all of the soldiers in the US 3rd Army visit the Concentration Camp nearest their position, so that there would be lots of witnesses because he predicted that in the future there would be people who denied anything happened. Later General Eisenhower expanded this to all US forces in Europe. Montgomery did NOT do the same for the British or Commonwealth forces under his command. There is a reason that so many US WW2 Vets really hated the Nazis after the war: they had seen and smelled the Camps personally.
